“One of the best in Pittsburgh”
Reviewed February 17, 2014 via mobile

This is one of the best restaurants in the city. It is on the expensive side, but you get what youth for in this upscale experience. The food and atmosphere are top notch. I've left satisfied every time I've been there and will be back.

“Wonderful first visit”

Went with friends before heading out for the night. We enjoyed various appetizers, the Crisy Tofu, Pork Belly and Crab Spring Rolls. Our waiter, Scott was very nice and helpful...I'll be back!

“Excellent- a real hit.”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

we've been twice in the past month. Once with a group of 8. Our dinners and experience were so good we decided on Soba as our venue for a private birthday party we hosted. Both times the food was excellent, the service was warm and wonderful. We like that they have a real good wine list as well as their space being very sophisticated and cool. For the private party we used the upstairs as well as the covered heated porch. We were concerned due to the arctic weather Pittsburgh as been experiencing lately ! but the heaters were great and the weather coverings were perfect. We sat over 30 people out there. The evening was a great hit from the private service bar, to the Maki station, the hors'dervres, and the beef/tuna carving stations. count Soba as a "hit" in Pittsburgh

“Bi Bim Bappin'”
Reviewed December 17, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Soba is a bi-annual treat for my wife and me. It has been a while since our last visit and the redesign of the interior is very nice. From the valet park, to the coat check, to the subtle and comfortable design elements of the interior, everything fits together very well. We had an excellent waiter and I went with my standard "ask the waiter what's best" route. He recommended an app with pork that reminded me very much of the lettuce wraps at PF Chang's, but with a hint of spice. They were pretty good. Not amazing, but good. For my main dish, he recommended Bi Bim Bap - a clay pot dish with sirloin, rice, pickled mushrooms, seaweed, and a spicy/sweet sauce. It was delicious! By far my favorite dish to date at Soba. My wife had her standard Tuna steak, and they do a great job with it there. If you are looking for a nice, upscale dining option in Shadyside, Soba will not disappoint those with a taste for pan-asian flare.

“Delicious pan Asian food, Zen atmosphere, flawless service”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We were celebrating two birthdays and this place did not disappoint. We had the blue bay mussels, wow, what a delicacy! It has thai sausage in the sauce and szechuan peppercorn. We all loved it. I had the tandoori grilled salmon that was perfectly cooked, with an Indian inspiration. My son had dolsot bi bim bap, a very exotic plate of beef, kimchi and other ingredients.

The menu is a combination of Japanese, Indian, Vietnamese, Burmese and Laosian tastes . If you like eclectic Asian food, you will love this place. It was full on a Monday evening and yet, it was not very noisy. The whole atmosphere is very Zen, very calm and soothing. Perfect for a romantic dinner too!
