Excellent, succulent, middle eastern food. I had lamb curry, long grain rice and creamed spinach. Good sized portions served cafeteria style on styrofoam but it's so good and the price is very reasonable. It's a little off the main strip district but there's a parking lot which is a big plus if you know the Pittsburgh Strip.

I fancied Indian, but my first choice was dark. Salem's is not in an upmarket area. Such a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff. Good food. Good value. Sparse furnishings.

I discovered Salem's nearly 3 years ago, after buying a Groupon for the place. When I walked in, I was suprised by the "cafeteria" set-up, with a large open area to sit and eat, a very casual atmosphere indeed. The menu was listed on a large board, with so many options I was overwhelmed. Most of the items listed I had: A. Never Heard of Before or B. Never Tried. I was intrigued by the menu and everything smelled delicious, so I listened to the patrons infront of me in line, and went ahead with what they ordered-- the chicken schwarma. I had never tried Indian food before, but to me, it looked like a gyro and I was willing to try that-- the 2 ppl ahead of me liked it, so maybe I would to. At the end of the long counter of food options, was a section of dessert, so I took a piece of baklava and paid for my meal, which was just under $10. That's a pretty good deal I'd say, considering the large portions you get at Salem's. The schwarma had a mouth-watering smell-- definitely made with curry and other Indian spices and fresh, warm bread, I couldn't wait to dig in. I was suprised by the taste, it was so different from anything I'd ever had before, but I loved it! It was so good I tried to finish the whole thing, but there was no way, because it is a big portion of food, more than I could eat in one sitting. I was so satified with my meal, that I vowed to make it a regular spot for lunch if I was in the area.

Over the last few years, I've been back many times for lunch and have tried other things, but I always seem to go back to my first love, the shwarma. If you would've told me a few years ago I'd be feverishly eating something called "schwarma" I'd think you were crazy, but you've just gotta try it! Sometimes I even get the tiki masala and a few pieces of naan to go for dinner later. Salem's is just. that. good.

Also, I need to add that the service received there is always top-notch. The employees are so friendly and I feel very welcome there, even tho I have a hard time pronouncing items on the menu.

I'm so glad that they offered a Groupon for this place, because I would've probably never tried it & just grabbed lunch at Peppi's or something "safe/norm", not knowing about it, but in my opinion, the food here is better!! Try it, you will be having sweet dreams of schwarma.

If you enjoy tandori, or tiki marsala, or any type of middle eastern food, Salem's has the most delicious fare at really great prices. Everyone that works there is friendly. It's very casual atmosphere, but the flavors are wonderful. Even the gyro and fries are top notch. And don't forget the Naan. I may have revieved this place already, but they deserve another mention. Ask for smaller portion. It will fill you up.
