We ate here on a Saturday evening before heading to Opera Theater of Pittsburgh up the street--one of their staff recommended it. We weren't terribly hungry and their menu offered some wonderful options. The soup of the day was a creamy broccoli and cheese that was delicious; we split a small Caesar salad and a pizza--just right. Their iced tea was excellent and our fabulous server left a bottle on the table (she could tell we were hot and thirsty). They have a large wine, beer and cocktail menu. The menu offers full meals at reasonable prices and a nice kids menu.
Porch is located at the entrance to Schenley Park, opposite the Cathedral of Learning. It's spacious and airy, with outdoor seating. We chose to be inside. Service was prompt and unobtrusive. We'll come back when we're in the area.

Great atmosphere and great food overlooking Schenley Park and the Cathedral of Learning at University of Pittsburgh. Went for college visits and stopped in for lunch. Went back the following day for brunch. You must get the "taters" with curried ketchup with whatever dish you order. I had the pork sandwich that was on the specials board, my daughter had the reuben (just a bit too runny from the toppings) but overall very tasty. For brunch she had the greek yogurt crepes with fresh berries and granola and I had the quiche with salad & "taters". Everything was delicious. Liked the "dishtowel" napkins. Liked the old-fashioned glass milk bottles that they use to leave extra water or iced tea on the table for you. Even liked that your check came in a mini glass mason jar. Servers, cashiers, and host/hostesses were extremely friendly. Everyone from college students, families with children, couples, to business people were dining there. Nice eclectic mix. Very clean and modern. Like that it opens right up to the outside patio and the small bar is indoor/outdoor. Loved that this did not affect the air conditioning too much. It was a very hot, humid day and we went there to escape the heat after a lengthy walking tour of the university. The Porch was a welcome respite - twice!

We went there for a wedding reception. It was the first they ever put on. The setup was perfect right on the park, lots of seating indoors and outdoors. A constant stream of appetizers and desserts were put out. The food was great, the atmosphere was very bright and pretty. Different from your typical enclosed and dark ballroom. The only problem was 2 hours before the end of the reception, they ran out of the limited selection of booze people were drinking from. Being that it was thier first reception, you want to give them a pass, but why not stock up just in case? Either way it was a lovely affair.

My wife, daughter and I grabbed a quick lunch on our way out of town at the end of PittStart. The pizza was surprisingly good. Other items, at least comparable to what we would find elsewhere in the city.

The environment is very loud, though, and the sounds reverberate through the dining area. Maybe better to grab and go outside, sit in the quad and study there instead.

The Porch offers plenty of great choices on their menu, and we were able to try many different things. We ordered a couple of appetizers; the calamari and the cornbread, and they were both spectacular. Then for dinner I split my Prime rib sandwich with my friend for half of his barbecue chicken pizza. The pizza was not as good as I thought it would be, but the prime rib sandwich was awesome. The service was great, and we really didn't have to wait at all between eating our appetizers and eating our actual dinner. It's a very lively atmosphere as well and a great spot to go with a group.
