Union Pig and Chicken is a new restaurant opened by the same chef who owns Salt of the Earth, also in East Liberty. We recently went on a Friday evening:
Service: The service was fast and courteous. Wait staff was pleasant and checked on us regularly without being intruding.
Food: We got the beef tartare for appetizers, my favorite dish of the night. We got the whole fried chicken and split it for the entree, along with mac and cheese and greens. The chicken was juicy and very tasty, the mac and cheese was smoky and creamy, the greens were a bit bitter for my taste, but my wife enjoyed it immensely.
Value: For the amount of food you receive, this is one of the best values in Pittsburgh.
Atmosphere: The tables are communal, the dining room is bare and simple.
Overall, this is a pleasant addition to the Pittsburgh dining scene, and we look forward to going back.
