When you see the Cathedral of Learning on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus you recognize it pinpoints Pit as the center of learning. This magnificent architecturally stunning tower symbolizes the importance of learning then and now in daily living. You must go see it and take the trip to the top to overlook Pittsburgh and the Oakland section. You will not be disappointed.

Great experience. This is the first place I visited today and was not disappointed. You could feel the great atmosphere by just looking from the outside. They offer souvenirs and other stuff, but are closing at 16:00 during the weekends, so you've got to be at least 2 hours earlier to be able to see the most of it.

As a Pitt graduate, I have toured these rooms several times. Great architecture and views of the city. Nationality rooms are both educational and fun to tour with the family.

First, go on a weekend when there are less students. Then, be sure to check out all the different rooms and the varying architecture. If you can get upstairs to see the view of the city and surrounding area, be sure to do that. This is a one of a kind building and should be seen if you are in the area.

We went in the Cathedral of Learning on a Friday, during Christmas break. I don't know if it would be more congested during a university semester, but we could move around from room to room very easily. This free self-guided tour of the "national" rooms is very fascinating for anyone. Go up to the 3rd floor and visit each room. Each room is themed for a specific country - not just simple decorations. Each room is constructed to represent the history, culture, practices, and craftsmanship of that country. Each room also has a recorded presentation that can be started by pressing a button on the wall. Take your time visiting Israel, Turkey, Switzerland, Africa, Armenia, Ukraine, India, Japan, early American, Welsh (I may be missing one). The building is so beautiful inside, and the rooms are stunning. After touring the rooms, take the elevator up to the 35th floor to look out over the area.
