Take the funicular to the top of Mt. Washington for THE panoramic view of Pittsburgh. At the top, take a leisurely stroll towards Heinz Field as you walk along the river. This is definitely a FIRST STOP on any visit to Pittsburgh. It's only $3.50 round trip (cash only - no change). Come prepared and all 65 or over travel for free. Take the T from downtown and the first stop across the river will bring you to the Incline. Spectacular view.

Except for the cash only tickets, this is worth the effort. Still used for transportation and not just tourists. Probably nothing else like it since there are only three functioning inclines in the world. Was there with great fall colors and once during the day and once at night. Great views.

This is a great slice of history (although I think the Duquesne incline gives you a better view(. However, beware that it's cash only and they don't give you change back. It was $3.50 round trip and I only had a five. Not a huge loss but it seems like in 2014 you could have a machine or an employee to give change. There was an employee just standing there who could easily have been put to work giving change.

We were up in the air about which incline to ride on our last trip to Pittsburgh. We finally decided on the Monongahela....and I am glad we did. We actually walked over from our hotel at the Omni Penn in downtown about a 15-20 minute walk. Its a good thing we walked because there is no parking over there. Also important note you need exact change to ride the incline $2.50 for a one way or $3.50 for a round trip per person. We did the round trip.
Once up at the top there are alot of nice overlooks for you to snap pictures at and take a nice walk around mt washington overlooking the city. Just a nice 1/2 day attraction to do if you have never been to pittsburgh.
