Monongahela Incline, built in 1870, is located near the Smithfield Street bridge, directly across the Monongahela River from downtown Pittsburgh. It has a length of 635 feet, a height of 367.4 feet, and a grade of 78%.
Its lower station is across the street from the Station Square's Freight House Building.
A trip to the top puts you on Mt Washington and some great night time views of downtown Pittsburgh and the three rivers
great photo ops going up and coming down and from Mt Washington
$7 round trip
worth every penny

This incline takes up up to Grandview Ave where you can see the wonderful Pittsburgh skyline. It is the newer of the two inclines (other being the Duquense incline) and it is a very fun ride for those of any age.

Inexpensive and fun experience for kids. Cute ice cream parlor up in Mt. Washington and beautiful views of the city. Only downfall, you must have exact change.

When in Pittsbirgh you have to go up the Monongahela Incline in order to get a absolutely great view of the city. Also, if you go to your right, as it is a long walk, there are a lot of great restaurants there as well. At the bottom of the incline is Station Square, again, a lot of great restaurants. When going down ask the attendant for a transfer as this will allow you to use the Port Authority Transit System, bus or rail You can also go to the bottom station, get on a Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) and head to Heinz Field or PNC Park as it is just a few minutes away!!
