We've visited a lot of NHL arenas....this one is good but surprisingly cold in the 200 level seats. Good views but bring a warm cost.

Admittedly, this arena is sooooo much of an improvement over the old Mellon Arena. It's difficult not to give it five stars.

But, if you're in the upper bowl, as we were, and seated in one of the lower rows of seats, you first take escalators all the way up to the top level, enter into the aisle, then decent on steep stairs down to your seats. The entrance to the seating area is not mid-tier (allowing folks to go up and down once they enter) but upper tier only Needless to say, this creates horrendous logjams between periods of hockey games. Moreover, because there are TWO levels of corporate boxes, the upper bowl is considerably more nosebleed level than in other professional sports venues.

An arena should be efficient at moving people around during intermissions and at the end of games; this one was not. A NEW arena should be able to offer a variety of local scene and mainstream food fare; this one just had the same old hot dog stations and a smattering of some other steak and potato fare.

NO specialty coffee? What? Hasn't the business model of a Starbuck's or a competitor shown you that there is a demand? There is one Dunkin' Donut cart on each of the 2 main floors; their coffee offerings are Regular, Decaf & Hot Chocolate in one-size and no flavors and no ice coffee & no Splenda and, I could go on.

The upper bowl site lines are appropriately steep, BUT the lower bowel has such a gradual rise that the upper bowl starts way back and therefore is more at a disadvantage. IMHO O:-)

We saw the Eric Clapton concert at Consol and I loved it! There wasn't a bad seat in the house and the sound was perfect. I would definitely go back for a concert anytime!

Glad theat Pittsburgh got rid of the Igloo. This is a world class stadium. Great food choices, amazing atmosphere.
