If you eat at Vallozzi's during lunch hour, especially for a special occasion, you will probably not be disappointed. The atmosphere is very adult with sophisticated furnishings, a beautiful Bar area, and a schooled Waitstaff (although our's DID spill French Press all over the tablecloth). None-the-less, our party of four enjoyed the generous Vegetable and Italian Paninis with Dressed Greens, hearty and delicious Minestrone, Gnocchi with Garlic Parmesian Sauce, and Crabcakes. All were meticulously prepared and presented. The rich, tender Pasta was priciest @$11.95 while the thick, fresh Sandwiches were just @$8.95 (all well within reason for quality of meal).

Vallozzi's Service was pleasant and attentive, even though we were four women who hadn't seen each other for almost a year and had a lot of catching up to do. It was a busy Holiday lunch crowd for them, but they didn't seem in any real hurry to get rid of us. Because of this largely positive experience, and the intriguing Menu, we will definitely return for Lunch.

At Dinner, their entree prices skyrocket into the $30+/per range, which is just outrageous at this point for the Pittsburgh market. Vallozzi's had better make up their minds what they want to be: a Good Solid Dining Choice in the Downtown area, or just another Tourist Trap. Meanwhile, if you're from out of town and want Dinner value, go to the Diamond Market Grill ("everyman" spot) or to Habitat (solid, but more upscale).

Our first time to Vallozzi and with any luck it will not be our last. We hope to go again on our next visit to Pittsburgh. The food was very good, waitstaff very attentive (albeit, the restaurant could have used at least one more server). The Decor was very pleasant. The experience was a good one and if you find yourself in Pittsburgh......... try Vallozzi's.

A recent business trip to Pittsburgh brought me to Vallozzi's. Overall a disappointment, especially at that price point. The veal was over-cooked (easy to do when cut thin but still that is their job) and I have had better mashed potatoes from a diner. The gravy or au jus was too salty. The faux Mediterranean does not quite make it. The staff seem noticeably unhappy.

The Mozzarella Bar is great - I had not seen one of these previously. They reportedly fly in the real mccoy buffalo mozzarella on a weekly basis. It was fresh and excellent. They were out of the smoked but we tried the goat cheese and it was great also. At that point, the table was ready but we should have quit after the cheese. The entrees were just average. The veal osso buco was good but not great as expected based on the $40+ cost. The seafood risotto was also underwhelming. The seafood was good but the risotto was way overcooked. Again, we loved the Mozzarella Bar Concept and the cheeses and that is definitely worth trying. However, the entrees need some work.

I enjoy fine dinning and made my reservations with expectations that are consistent with those experiences. I have been to Vallozzi's in Greensburg but its been awhile. When the server offered the Bronzzini fish @ a market price of $47.00.. I laughed. They don't even get that in NY or Chicago. I had the Osso Buco it was ok, small. It's not worth it for the price and quality.
