We went to Alma Pan-Latin on a special deal during Restaurant Week in Pittsburgh - a three course meal for $25. The food there is uniquely Latin American with offerings from Argentina, Cuba, Peru, Brazil, etc. The Canja Soup from Brazil was flavorful and tasty. The chicken dish was also good, but a bit tough - the explanation was that the chicken was free range and less fatty, thus the toughness. The molten cake with cinnamon icing hit the spot. The regular items were, I thought, a bit pricey, but after all this wasn't a taco and burrito joint. The restaurant is located on a busy corner in the Regent Square section of Pittsburgh with an outside seating area. It was a bit noisy due to all the hard surfaces, but very crowded with a lot of young couple types. The service was a bit slow. But I would highly recommend this place, especially if you're tired of the typical Pittsburgh meat, chicken and Italian places.

All in all it was a positive experience. I doubt I would become a regular at this restaurant, but I would recommend it to friends. Empanadas del día were oxtail w/ blue cheese. It had an interesting flavor with a delicious chimichurri sauce on the side. Only complaint is that it was the size of half my thumb (and i have small hands). Other than the empanadas I'd say the appetizers we ordered were good relative to quality, price and portion size. My aunt said that the platanos maduros were too sweet with the added sugar. The ceviche del camarones was EXCELLENT! It had sweet potatoes in it and just the right mix of spicy and citrus. The interior decor was very nice and welcoming. The waiter was helpful. Menu had a variety of choices/flavors.

This is a great restaurant that offers vegetarian dishes as well as meat and seafood. It has foods from Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, etc. Everything is very good and the staff is very helpful (especially Nancy who is a new waitress). They also offer outdoor seating which is nice.
