“New Style Vietnamese Cuisine”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

My husband had eaten in this restaurant before and loved it. However, now is under new management. The taste of the food was good. I was a little surprised that their version of fried rice is different from any other restaurant I have ever been to. The meat is not inside the rice, it is served on the side.
My husband had the "hot" pho and it was hot, hot! ha ha That is the way he likes it.
I think everyone would enjoy the experience.

“Flavorful, friendly Vietnamese in The Strip”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

Pittsburgh's historic Market District - The Strip - is gritty & lively. Squashed between the Allegheny River and a sheer hill, The Strip offers wholesale produce, ballet, shops, loft living, a cigar factory, live music, a sports museum & a joint called Peace, Love & Little Donuts. Restaurants? You have Lebanese, sushi, Benkovitz Seafood, tacos, Primanti's, Kaya (recommended by our hotel staff), Chinese, Irish pubs, Vietnamese, etc.

After scoping out two other Vietnamese eateries on The Strip, we opted for Pho Van. It has a comfortable feel, with prompt, friendly service. BYOB. One member of our party liked the baby coconut drink. Tasty appetizers: cha gio, grapefruit/shrimp salad, a lemongrass tofu dish. Something with pennywort leaves.

Our entrees were nicely-seasoned, especially the grilled beef (my favorite). The pork chops were tender (altho we still needed a knife). The stir-fry veggie plate was flavorful but small-portioned. The skewered shrimp maybe needed more grilling. We also had to request more fresh veggies (mint, lettuce, sprouts) for the cha gio & grilled beef.

Clean, affordable, good service. Parking's a challenge. More veggies, please! A member of our group who's a veteran of Chicago's Argyle Street, San Jose's Westminster and other Vietnamese-American strips pronounced Pho Van "authentic". In fact, she ate there twice in one day!

“Excellent Vietnamese”
Reviewed April 16, 2012

We tried Pho Van for lunch in the Strip (on Penn Ave around the corner from la Prima Espresso) and had a very nice lunch at a very affordable price. Although they are known for their varieties of Pho soups these tend to be on the large portion size for lunch so we stuck with three apps for lunch...fresh spring rolls, asian apple/pork salad, and vietnamese crepe. Excellently prepared, quick, friendly service with a smile makes us want to go back for more

“Great Pho”
Reviewed September 29, 2011

I ate here twice in a period of one week this summer. Both times I ordered pho with three choices of beef. The pho was excellent and there were plenty of condiments, basil, jalapeno pepper, mung bean sprouts and lime.
