This hotel is directly across the Roberto Clemente bridge from the ballpark. The bridge is closed to car traffic on game days making it very convenient to walk both ways. It's very convenient and the hotel is very nice as you would expect from this chain. On the same street as the hotel entrance, there are many restaurants and bars many of which set up outdoor stations selling food and drink before the game as people walk across the bridge. This creates a party atmosphere and is fun.

The hotel bar is quite small and not very appealing to stay for long especially with a group.

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the river and you can see into the ballpark. You'll also see the firewo...

For whatever reason, it proved difficult to secure a last minute downtown Piittsburgh hotel room during the Memorial Day weekend. After continuously checking online, we finally were able to book a room at the Renaissance. This is a nice hotel with a location that can't be beat. You can walk the streets of downtown Piittsburgh and easily take a short stroll across the nearby bridge that will take you right to PNC Park, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Our room was clean and comfortable and reasonably priced, given the location and ambience of the hotel. You can park your car in a public garage right across the street. It was only $10.00 for 24 hours! The front desk staff was friendly and more that happy to help with questions and/or concerns. I would absolutely stay here on a future trip to Pittsburgh.

As a Mother's Day gift, I purchased tickets to a show at the Byham Theater and a night at the Pittsburgh Renaissance for my mother and her boyfriend. Although I live in New Orleans, I called and spoke with Pitt Ren's staff to make sure everything was covered for my mom's stay. After speaking with my mom about the show/stay, she couldn't believe how friendly and helpful the staff at the Pitt Ren. Not only that, she said her room was a corner view on the next to top floor and the bed was the best she had ever slept on in a hotel. Please note: my mom is a very hard woman to please (ha ha), but she only had the best things to say about the Pitt Ren. They even had their dinner at the bar in the hotel and loved that. Thanks to Pitt Ren's staff for helping me make this trip a home run for her...

Nice updated older historic hotel. Is in a great location downtown. We had a room on 7th floor with a view of river though did have to look to side out of window. Walking distance to a lot of good restaurants. Room was large and bathroom also very big with nice thick towels. Baseball park just a short walk across river. Don't forget to check out the Fred Rogers statue close to Heinz Field.

Amazing commitment to detail, big rooms, and a wonderful location on the river, near stadiums, cultural district, and central to lots of stuff to see in Pittsburgh. For a large hotel, I was amazed at how helpful and pleasant the staff is, and food was good, as well. We could walk just about everywhere we wanted to go, including crossing the bridges over both rivers (great running path along the rivers, as well).

Room Tip: view of the river

We booked at Renaissance to be near PNC Park for a Pirates game (typically staying in Station Square nearby). The experience could not have been better. Our room had outstanding view of Clemente Bridge and the stadium itself. You park your car in private garage across street from hotel for $5 --you literally cant beat that in a city. There are PLENTY of eateries for breakfast lunch or dinner all around the property, so no reason to eat on property. We are Marriott Rewards members and were greeted very warmly, being given 500 points as the weekend reception food and beverage was cancelled...unexpected bonus. Rooms were extremely quiet, comfortable and clean. They felt like an estate, clearly feeling historic, but so very well kept. The bathroom had a hideaway closet door (slides into wall) which was difficult to close entirely, due to an almost non-existent handle. They should forego maintain era appropriate design in room and slap a door know or something to grip on the door, so close it easily. It's just a privacy issue. Beds were so comfortable, from what I remember, so tired from game and late night afterward, I was fast asleep with no noise whatsoever. Staff from the front desk to the doormen where fantastic. If you are in Pittsburgh for a Pirates game, this is a MUST stay. Parking your car so cheaply and forgetting about it, able to walk around the VERY safe feeling confines of the city immediately around the property and walk to the game in about 6 minutes across the bridge. You felt like you were staying at an extension of the stadium. There is not a thing I would complain about and that is so unlike me...if going to PNC, this is the place to be, no questions asked...enjoy.

Room Tip: Request a room with view of PNC Park, we didn't make a special request, but had the view and it...

In town to see the Pirates/PNC as part of our father/son stadium tour. Location could not be better for ease of access to PNC. Walking across the Clemente Bridge (closed to vehicles several hours before game time) from the hotel to the Park was the perfect approach in a sea of black and gold. Having booked a riverview room several months ago, however, and having had numerous email exchanges with the hotel in the months prior to the trip about the importance of a ballpark view, we were disappointed not to have been placed in a room on the front side of the hotel for our two-night stay. Ironically, we were told that had our stay been shorter (i.e., one night), they may have been able to accommodate the request. Too bad. They missed an opportunity to make a great first impression.
