My husband and I went to this place for a RADical free day that took place for a day in October. There were a lot to see. They have some historical art and some contemporary art. There was even an exhibit of chairs and another exhibit of models of Greek architecture related to those seen in Washington, DC.

Although smaller than many major art museums, the Carnegie's collection is on par with the best. The range of eras and genres represented is broad and the special exhibits are always thoughtfully designed. My family and I enjoyed our annual pass (2011-2012) which included all four of the Carnegie Museums in Pittsburgh. One-time admission to this museum includes the Natural History Museum as well (see my review of that museum, too), so you get two great museums for the price of one. We highly recommend taking the daily tour of the Art Museum. The groups were small both times we participated and on the last occasion, we were the only patrons. The volunteer docent for that tour tailored the experience to our interests and particularly engaged our 9-year-old son. She also took us into the Hall of Architecture and the music hall, which was closed to the general public. That was on a Saturday. Our weekday tour was led by a museum staff member. Each docent focused on different parts of the collection, so if you go more than once you don't have to worry about getting the same tour twice. I'd recommend allowing at least 3 hours for the museum.

This is a wonderful museum, both history and art. We've also enjoyed the dinning room and have picniced down stairs with our own brown bag lunch. The museum of art is just wonderful and even my young sons enjoyed walking through it when they were young. Our sons attended summer camps too.
