My companion was thrilled to "see the dinosaurs", despite his mature age. Indeed the fossils are exclusive, but there is plenty to see in the museum. I found the Native Americans section particularly interesting.

I was not aware of the history of Pittsburgh and the many innovators that are from there. You start at the bottom and work your way up. I’m not sure if it’s a temporary exhibit but the Vietnam War exhibit was excellent. We spent an hour in that part alone before moving upstairs. Though I’m not a fan of the sports teams it includes many sports from high school through the pros. The curator put a lot of thought into the presentation. You learn a lot and there are a few activities that the kids loved. As you continue through the museum you learn about Heinz, Mr. Rogers, slavery, the evolution of glass, and transportation. This is a Pittsburgh gem.
We needed something to do that was after 5 on a rainy day & this was perfect. They stay open till 8! They have art & history so you can spend lots of time here. Parking & coffee shop on location. (Grab some coffee before you start your tour!)We had a little trouble finding out where we were supposed to go to start & how to flow through the museum. We were told to start by going through the gift shop! I wish they had signs or people able to help on each floor. Once we figured out the layout we had a great time. Love the giant crystal/mineral collection! Most of the exhibit is dead stuffed animals in behind glass museum scenes. Kinda creepy but we still had fun.
There’s enough here to keep most anyone occupied for a full day if not more. It’s also kid friendly and has a very nice casual dining facility.
We only had about 3 hours to see the art and natural history museum. We focused mostly on the Hopi exhibit and it was wonderful. You could easily spend the whole day covering both sides of the museum.
Took our dinosoar obsessed 2yr old for his birthday and he LOVED it! We went through the dino part a could of times. It was very clean and easy to walk around and see everything.
