“The Strip........Interesting place!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

We visited a couple of weeks after Labor Day in the late afternoon. It was not busy at all this time of year and this time of day. Quite a few shops closed at 4 or 5 o'clock but there were still shops of every variety to visit. It reminded me of a cross between a Turkish bazaar, the tourist
section of a Mexican border town and a contemporary strip mall. A little bit of everything. Fun to see. Our only purchases were in a fantastic spice shop and a candy shop but you could find everything from tourist trinket shops to Pittsburgh sports shops to farmers' markets, seafood stores and meat markets.

“Loved it!!! Wish I had more time to spend there.”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Great area of Pittsburgh. Wonderful atmosphere, fairly close to downtown though we still drove there, and neat things to see and buy. Loved the fresh markets, popcorn place, and Pitt souvenirs. Busy, local, international all at the same time. Go!!!

“Bring an appetite and some shopping totes”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The Strip was originally the home to the city's produce and meat wholesalers. Refrigerated railroad cars delivered food items from throughout the US to be sold here. Now the items mostly arrive via truck and much of the early-morning excitement is gone.

However -- its a great place to spend a half-day. Find the $5 parking lot by 21st and Smallman and start walking. There's a rectangle bounded by 21st, Smallman, 16th and Liberty that's chock-fll of restaurants, kitchen supply firms, paper-goods and novelties, clothing, coffee and more food than you can shake a stick at. There are a few sidewalk vendors as well.

The former PRR produce warehouse houses a few market stalls that are open in a limited basis -- and the city wants to tear down part of the structure, so do some research if you're thinking about that aspect of the Strip.

It's a total madhouse on the weekends as the locals flock there to resupply. Your trip will be more enjoyable if you visit during the week. And -- although you should always be aware of what's going on around you -- its a reasonably safe neighborhood during the day.

Come and pay us a visit!

“Always A Nostalgic Trip”
Reviewed October 10, 2013 via mobile

Visiting the strip is always a nostalgic trip. Street vendors, food carts, vegetables stands outside and a hustle and bustle atmosphere. Mad an Italian American I enjoy all the ethnic choices made available. However, be patient because it's always busy.

“No better place to shop outdoor”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

The strip? Just the words say a lot about being in the strip district. I don't know of a better place to shop outdoor than the " Strip". People have been going there for over 100 years to get fresh produce right from the farms of the U.S. The prices are good and you can't beat the food either. No matter where you eat, like Primanti Bros. to name one. LOL. You'll find food to your liking. If you want traditional foods you'll find that in the Strip. If you want Pittsburgh things, sports and others, you'll find that in the Strip. Pasta's, bread, cheese, ethnic food, it's all there. If visiting Pittsburgh take a ride to the Strip, park and enjoy life as we have known it for all these years.
