“So happy to finally take all this in!”

I have been to many botanical gardens and Phipps is fabulous. I was extremely impressed with how meticulously maintained everything was. Their Center for Landscape Sustainability is a must see. The children's garden was engaging even for adults. As a landscape professional, I have been wanting to visit since I heard of Phipps and am so happy to have finally made a visit.

The conservatory never fails to please. It seems to get better all the time and I have been going there for over 50 years.

“What A Bargain”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

Fifteen dollars to be surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants for two hours or more if you like - pure bliss. Bring your camera and plan to take your time to really enjoy each of the fourteen rooms and three exterior gardens. They are currently working on a train room which will thoroughly entrance the kids. The big kid who accompanied me was enthralled just watching them work on it. The orchid room alone is worth the price of admission if you are a flower lover. Between the scent and the beauty of those orchids you leave feeling relaxed and refreshed. For the men in the group, they learn that apples are from the rose family. My husband plans to get me a dozen apples for Valentines day. He definitely thinks it was worth the fifteen dollar admission.
There is a small cafe at the Conservatory for a snack or several interesting restaurants within three miles to round out a morning.

What a great place to spend the afternoon, either alone, with friends or family. We are members and I find myself sitting in the gardens at least once a week having coffee from there wonderful restaurant which also serves an array of fine gourmet meals and drinks and decent prices. Like many botanical gardens this place is broken up into rooms and each has a unique character. My personal favorite by far is the orchard room. It has a pond in the center that you walk around filled with fish and the plants are pretty alien like. The desert room is also something else, huge examples of cacti and other succulent related plants which make you feel while in there as if your in Phoenix rather than gray-ish Pittsburgh. Come early if you are driving because parking is only free in the center island out front and its very limited, otherwise you need to find a pay for spot and that's not so great either. But overall this facility is a real treat. Go to there website or join them on Facebook to see whats happening as well because they hold all types of events which involve food, music, and socializing. Theirs art all over the place too, glass sculptures and other amazing things that pop up between and around the plants, like trains and dinosaurs which my son gets a kick out of.

“This place has real c(g)lass.”

I grew up looking forward to my trips to this place of exotica. Today, it's still a treat to see how much of the world's flora has made it Pittsburgh and flourished!
