Owner description: Scale Mount Washington in one of two original 1877 cable cars for a fun and unique ride and a breathtaking view of the Pittsburgh skyline when you reach the top of the 400-foot incline. Parking available across the street from our lower station at 1197 West Carson Street.

If you are over 65 you can ride for free . . . but you MUST show your Medicare card! Any other form of ID, including your driver's license, will not be accepted. The ticket-taker lady made that quite clear to me! I felt like I had my fingers slapped- naughty-naughty girl. Otherwise nice ride up & down. Be sure to look at all the old pictures of Pittsburgh and definately go down the steps to see the actual gears in operation. Fascinating.

The view from the top of the incline was just beautiful at night. You can see just how interesting and beautiful the city of Pittsburgh really is!

It's a great place to take out-of-town visitors or just a convenient way to get to Mt Washington for a stroll or picture-taking.

Having been here before, knew what to expect. It's easy to get to, but map-out and review directions ahead of time...some turns are tricky. Parking at the lower lot is $2 (for the hour we were there). And the round-trip ride for 2 adults and 2 kids was $15. But it was fun, and offered great views of the city. I would also recommend paying the 50 cents/person to take the self-guided tour to see the gears and cable machines that operate the incline.

Overall, a bit pricey, but definitely worth the experience, and certainly worth helping to preserve a great historical artifact.

Tried the other incline first but they require exact change at the top and no way to make exact change. So, we walked for a bit and found a way to make change. Then up Duquesne we went. Found out there is a person that can maybe make change. Come on - get a way for people to make change. Other than that, the incline is an entertaining bit of history and it is much taller than it looks from the bottom or the distance! :-)
