Worth a ride. One of few inclines of the type in the world. Could be a tick list item if you collect this kind of experience.

“Memorable way to spend an hour or two. Things to know...”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

In case you don't read the other reviews below, know that indeed if you park at the bottom of the incline, which is easy to find with navigation to 1197 W. Carson St., there is a parking lot which costs a few bucks and a few shops including Hard Rock Cafe, Houlihans, Segway tours, Duck tours, and about a dozen riverfront and indoor unique stores. Across the street you board the incline which costs $3.50/adult and $1.75 under 12. The two trams run back and forth, the ride is only a few minutes and you pay at the top with CASH. And while it says "exact change only" there is an attendant who seemed to be giving change if needed but he clearly preferred exact. Once at the top there is a large overlook that is very nice. I expected more shops at the top but it's nothing like the bottom - an ice cream shop and a couple places to eat that at least were not chains - we ate at Redbeards like another reviewer - but no stores that we could find.
I should add that I hate heights but it wasn't that bad, the tram felt safe - those are some serious steel cables. We happened to be in town for a family event with a morning service and evening party and hitting the riverfront and incline was a nice way to see the city and spend a couple hours between events.

The Duquesne Incline is definitely worth a ride when in Pittsburgh for the novelty of it and for the views of the city it provides. It is a fascinating glimpse into historic transportation.

“Worth the Ride”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

A fun way to get great views of Pittsburgh and cheap too. Plus up top there's a little museum with facts and pictures of the incline. Parking does cost money if you park at the bottom of the incline but the views make it worth the ride.
