“Great place to stay while in Pittsburgh”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

We stayed here in 2010 and found it to be a good place. When planning a family get together, we booked 9 rooms and drove or flew in from Atlanta. This was a great place for a get together. The hotel has an indoor pool that opens to the back yard. The back yard overlooks the Ohio River and there are various tables and benches to sit at. The highlight of the back yard is the large fire pit that is lit in the evening. This makes a great place to visit and talk. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We had a King suite that was adjacent to my son's two queen room. All the guests from age 10 to 65 enjoyed the hotel and rooms. The morning breakfast was excellent with the normal continental breakfast, plus eggs and meat. Neville Island is a great place to base out of for your Pittsburgh experience.

Room Tip: Get a second or third floor room facing the river. This is a better view that facing the parking lo...

The Fairfield is located right off of the highway which makes for easy access. We stayed at the hotel on our way to and from Hershey PA. Our first stay was enjoyable. The room was clean, the staff was nice and the hotel was very kid friendly. The breakfast set up was nice and plentiful. However, our return stay was very disappointing. We had misplaced some items and called the hotel for them to look to see if we left the items in the room. No one bothered to call us back. When we returned, they made excuses about not returning our call but assured us that they had searched the room and had not seen our lost items--cell phone and ID. They put us in the exact same room that we stayed in on our way TO Hershey. Imagine our surprise when we found our cell phone and ID in the room. If they had cleaned the room, they would have seen the missing items. Additionally, the breakfast crew that morning was very unprofessional and unfriendly. They ran out of food prior to the end of breakfast and was very nasty about it. We couldn't even get hot water. I won't say that I'll never stay here again, because our initial visit was exactly what one would expect from a hotel associated with the Marriott. However, this hotel will not be our first choice.

I stayed at this hotel 2 years ago when it had only recently opened. And it was quite good: clean, friendly and knowledgable service, nice rooms. So I didn't hesitate to book again when returning to Pittsburgh last week. Oh how sad did this hotel turn out: the first night, the odor of mold greeted me in the lobby and an ok friendly staff. The room looked ok, but unfortunately, it became clear the next day that cleaning services were spotty as the bathroom was not fully cleaned and trash not removed. The second evening, I was greeted by a smell not unlike a gym changing room (dirty socks came to mind). The next morning, there was no bill under my door, and a not very knowledgable person behind the desk (adding an address to the bill already overwhelmed here). This hotel clearly suffers from inadequate management. A pity.

Dear McAenki: Thank you for posting a review on TripAdvisor. I apologize that your experience on this trip was not the quality of service you deserve as a valued Marriott guest. I’ve reviewed your comments with our leadership team to improve area knowledge of our Front Desk Associates. I am unfamiliar with the odor you mention in the lobby but have reviewed this with our team as well to ensure our lobby is always fresh and clean as it usually is. We hope you stay with us again on your next trip to Pittsburgh so we can exceed your expectations on your next stay. Please contact me personally if I can be of assistance.

Sincerely,
Meg Barron

Stayed here for 5 days in July because of a curling bonspiel held at the Robert Morris sports arena just 5 minutes down the road. It was much closer than the official event hotel - we had a nice room overlooking the Monongahela River, with a view of the bridge. Bit noisy outside because of the highway going by, but they have a very nice back patio with gas fire pit. Pool was great, breakfast was fine, and room was quite soundproof. Staff were very friendly and helpful with directions and suggestions for places to go. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for an event near the airport. I checked out the hotels nearer to the airport and they were either more costly, didn't have the amenities or didn't have the positive reviews that we were looking for. I am glad we chose here...it was not too far from our event and made it to the airport in less than 20min. It would also be close enough if you need to do something in Cranberry or even downtown. Kings restaurant right out the front door which was also convenient for a family meal. A Subway was also very close by. We loved the unique location- it is in an industrial area but it is a quick on and off to I-79 that you don't need to venture into where the businesses are. I liked that it was not in a congested area. You must request a river view because that is what made our stay. We enjoyed watching the traffic on the river and also the nightscape of the bridge. Our kids loved looking out of the window. The hotel has a great backyard that faces the river with ample seating, fire pit, picnic tables and even a grill. It was nice to sit there and relax.

Pool area was clean. The front desk staff was helpful. The breakfast was ample with a good variety and the staff worked hard to keep it stocked and clean. Nice lobby area to congregate. Cool citrus water near the elevator was refreshing. The room was up to date and clean. In fact the whole hotel was eceptionally clean. They had speedy in- room wifi with easy connection- no passcode hassles, just connected. Beds were super comfy.

Will stay here again as we come to this area of Pittsburgh regularly.

I recently traveled to Pittsburgh for the first time. I chose to stay a little outside of downtown Pittsburgh. This hotel was situated off of the highway along the Ohio river. It was nice and peaceful. The room we stayed in was a suite with a separate sitting area. It was very clean and modern. The patio was nice to sit at and unwind. The only person to ask how our stay was, was a gentleman who worked there. We were in the elevator together and he was nice enough to engage in conversation with us. All in all it was a pleasant stay, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to visit Pittsburgh but not stay in the hectic area of downtown.

It seems you will have to travel 5-10 miles to get to "civilization" but the room and service was great. I recommend relaxing in the back where the hotel sits right on a river and has a great view. The area was safe and quiet.

I’m so glad you had a chance to take in the river view from the patio alepore! We’re spoiled with having such a beautiful view and the fire pit makes it nice even when the weather gets cold.

Best wishes,
