“Good (but expected more after all the hype)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 15, 2013

We finally got to the Black Lab and had a nice meal. However, as my title suggests, we were expecting to be blown away after what friends had told us. The food was good except for my partner's steak, which they couldn't get right even with two tries - it takes more skill than most believe to cook a steak well done and still keep it moist and tender. My shrimp & grits was good, though it needed something green on the side. Waited too long for the server to get to the table to open the wine, so we had to do it ourselves. Also: they don't take reservations, and they don't seat incomplete parties. And yet it had open tables on a balmy Saturday night, so maybe they should rethink that, since we nearly went elsewhere when they couldn't give us a table to let us wait for a friend who needed to get there after his church service.

This is a serviceable BYO. It would seem to have dependable interesting food in filling quantities.

“Another good experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2013

Had dinner with two friends this past week and I tried the 'fixed price' 3-course meal, which included a very good tomato bisque, Tilapia over risotto with spinach and topped with a light lemony sauce, and peanut butter mousse with chocolate wafer crust. Every course was delicious and served with nice presentation. As an FYI, this is a BYOB.

We arrived early, which was good, for later arrivals had to deal with more noise in the tight space.

“Great place for a nice dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

We went on a Wednesday night, so it was nice and quiet. We had not been there in a few years, but wanted to go back. The service was right on top of things and the food was well prepared. My wife and I had no complaints at all. I would not suggest this place for taking the kids, it is geared to adults. The meals are not cheap, but you will get what you pay for.

Be aware the do not serve alcohol so you will need to bring your own bottle of wine.

“Pass”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

Food was ok....very pricey. Atmosphere was very loud and not private. Its a byob so that's a plus. Small portions and large price tag. I wanted to try this place because the menu looked tasty but will not return. Waitress was friendly and bussers were attentive.

“Good eating in Phoenixville”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2013

Great food and service at this laid back spot in Phoenixville. They have somehow pulled off a very classy yet relaxed ambience, and the service is excellent. An inventive menu keeps things interesting and the chef clearly cooks with passion and skill. Next time you're looking for a great meal in Phoenixville, check this place out.
