“White water rafting with kids”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

We went on a rafting trip today with our 6 & 8 year old boys. We chose the middle yough, because of their ages and this was their first rafting experience. The OTP staff was great. They had a very large group show with more than expected and handled the trip the best they could.
Our guide Missy was great. She answered all the boys questions with a smile. She even dove in the river, swam out and retrieved a group that didn't follow instructions and overshot the take out point and brought them back upstream to safety.
I would highly recommend this company.

Organized, great staff. Our guide, Hannah, kept us in the boat and out of the water and gave us a good ride.

“first rate experience”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Decided to take a one day adventure with my son out of Baltimore and introduce him to white water rafting. Bypassed Harper's Ferry and drove to Ohiopyle. Followed reviews on tripadvisor and went with Trading Post and their Lower Tough trip. We were not disappointed. We got off fairly close to our 11am scheduled time, even with a large group. Opted for the guided tsour, which was well worth any additional fee charged. Jamie our guide was very knowledgeable and equally talented. All equipment seemed to be in excellent condition and the entire staff seemed to have two priorities everyone be safe and have a great time. Will definitely be back. Well worth the three hour one way drive.

“First time rafting”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

Went for our wedding anniversary on the 4th and had a great time. We had never been rafting before but the couple we went with had gone kayaking a few times so that helped a little. Unless you a total spaz (and we had some on this trip) you should be ok without a guide in your raft. The guides who were escorting us were really helpful the whole time. Definitely glad we tried this and can't wait to do it again!

“Our new fun thing to do with visitors...”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Last weekend my husband's brother, his wife and two of their boys (ages 21 and 16) came to PA on their way East for vacation .This was the first time whitewater rafting for 5 of us, and the one who had gone before went 20 years ago. Since we were all novices, and after reading the many reviews here on TripAdvisor, we decided to take the fully guided tour on the Lower Yough River. We are very happy we did!! It was such a blast we'll take all our summer visitors in the future, and the grandkids as soon as they are old enough.

Our guide, Dillon, was an absolute gem. He was so calm, really friendly and informative about the river, and avoided all the corny, ridiculous, canned jokes. Instead, we did a lot of family ribbing, and he told us about himself and joined in the teasing. He also related quite a bit about the Yough River, water levels, how the rapids work, some inside jokes of the river guides, etc. No one fell out of our boat and by the end, all agreed that we would like to try the Upper Yough Class 5 rapids next time we go out. But my sister-in-law and I are definite..we'll let the two hubbies and young guys go together, and we'll get our own raft. Maybe Dillon will be back then, too!

One thing we noticed about the Ohiopyle Trading Post outfit was that the accompanying kayakers and guides seemed to be the best-trained people on the river. They were adamant that we listen to their directions, but when people didn't listen and screwed up, they were getting rafts off rocks, or in the river and grabbing people so fast that we were very impressed. Two of us were Red Cross lifeguard trainers and swim instructors and we were still amazed at their skill!

The only cons (for some people):
It takes 3-5 hours, not counting your driving time.
Lunch is a make-your-own cold sandwich "buffet" on the rocks along the river.
There are no bathrooms along the river so you use the "facili-TREES". Watch out for poison ivy. If you brush against it, wash with Technu when you get home.

We knew all this from reading the website, and it didn't bother us at all. Thanks, Ohiopyle Trading Post, for a great experience!
