Nice place draws a crowd. Food is good and service is good too. Wine list is decent. Food has always been good on our visits. Popular place for sure.

Ventured out during the recent Nor'easter for a weeknight dinner. The restaurant was nearly empty, so service was exemplary! 4 servers for each diner. We were offered our choice of seating and opted for a secluded table away from the main compliment of customers. The wait staff seemed like family to each other, but professional and courteous to the customers.

The restaurant had a welcoming, rustic appeal with an unexpected “classy” vibe.

I started with an “authentic” Caesar Salad which was done perfectly. Not overdressed with, fresh crunchy Romain lettuce and a trace of lemon. My wife had a chicken soup with noodles in a clear vegetable broth. I opted for the linguine with white clam sauce which was delicious and my wife had boneless chicken breasts smothered in all kinds of cheesy goodness, equally delicious.

Highly recommended.

“Great Food”

We really enjoy La Stalla. Authentic Italian food, but a little on the expensive side. Service is good and staff is nice.

“Always a favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

Great Italian restaurant in a unique setting. We usually enjoy the outdoor patio but it was closed this time of the year. We went during the week and there was no wait. The veal dishes are always delicious and the salmon was excellent. The only negative was that the broccoli rabe was so salty, I couldn't eat it. But the waiter was very nice and brought me a new dish without the salt. The bread is very good along with the dipping oil. This restaurant will always be one of our favorites.

“Wonderful food but noisy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

This restaurant is in the bottom of a converted barn, not far from the center of Newtown, and features an open kitchen. Depending on where you sit, you can watch the chefs at work. We were in town to visit relatives and as we waited at the small bar on a Friday evening, we noticed the hostesses and some of the waiters greeted patrons by name so obviously this is a restaurant the local frequent regularly.

Once seated, our food and service were excellent. We enjoyed a field greens salad with fresh orange slices dressed in the light vinegarette, cavatelli with broccoli, chicken marsala topped with lots of mushrooms and chicken saltimbocca. They offer a nice, albeit somewhat overpriced, wine list.

In warm weather, LaStalla offers outdoor patio seating and a bar.

The only drawback to the evening was the noise level. As noted before, La Stalla has an open kitchen. Add to that a full dining room full of hard surfaces and the decibel level rose to an uncomfortable level making it difficult to carry on a conversation without raising ones voice, thereby adding to the din. Should we decide to visit again, we would try a weeknight, hoping for a lower noise level.

Please note that LaStalla does not appear to be user friendly to anyone with mobility problems. There are steps to get into the restaurant and steps within the restaurant. If you have mobility problems, please talk with the hostess when making a reservation to avoid problems or dissappointment.
