We have dined at Florentino's in Newtown a number of times and have enjoyed our previous visits there. Unfortunately, the last two times my server, Mary, ruined the experience. Both experiences were similar, so I'll only recount last night's.
We were seated at our table and left unattanded for more than10 minutes. Only when we asked the host to have our wine opened did Mary eventually appear. She seems totally disinterested, and a bit hostile at having to deal with us. Again another 10 minutes passed before Mary finally returned with our wine glasses and a corkscrew, but she forgot the water that we had also requested. However Mary began to press us immediately to order even though we were just starting to get comfortable. We asked for a few minutes to review the menu at our leisure. Another 15 minutes passed before Mary returned with the water and an opportunity to order our food. After ordering, the next time we saw Mary was after our food had been served and she came to suggest we order more garlic bread, for which there was an upcharge that she neglected to mention. (Having been there before, I know that there is an upcharge for garlic bread. And while I do not mind paying for it, I think the customer should be informed of this before the bill arrives.)
As soon as we were done eating Mary, who we had never stopped by to ask how our meals were or whether we needed anything else, shoved the dessert plate in front of us and suggested that we might want dessert. .
Bottom line was that we had good food but a negative experience. We won't hurry back for fear that we might have Mary as a server again.
