Owner description: The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad is nestled 37 miles outside of Philadelphia in Bucks County’s premiere destination; New Hope, Pennsylvania. A Delaware river town chock-full of niche shops and resturants, a fitting locale for a day or night out with friends & family. We provide a glimpse into travel of a bygone era on historic trains traveling over tracks that were laid in 1891 by the North-East Pennsylvania Railroad.

It was very hard to hear the tourguide on the loudspeaker. The noisiness of the train drowned him out.

Unless you are a real train buff I would not recommend. Very expensive for a short scenic ride. They have seasonal rides - Easter Bunny and Polar Express themed rides which are generally a hit with the pre-K crowd just very expensive outing for a family that only takes up about an hour.

The New Hope & Ivyland Railroad (NH&I) have been delighting visitors since August 1966 and have maintained a loyal following. Their presence in the center of New Hope is amazingly convenient and reminds many of a time when railroads were a focal point of town. Hearing the wail of a train whistle flowing throughout the town gives New Hope an added charm that many other former railroad villages sorely lack (Provincetown, MA, Wilmington, VT, Lake Geroge, NY).

The lovingly restored station, locomotives and Pullman cars are clean and pristine. The gift shop is also a decent size and carries nice trinkets. If funds are not too tight, go for the $25 First Class, air conditioned car. The 45-minute New Hope-Lahaska round trip is long enough to delight kids without boring the parents too much. Longer trips cover the entire line to Ivyland, where NH&I connects with SEPTA's Warminster line into Center City Philadelphia.

If the Strasburg Railroad is too far a hike, the NH&I will more than suffice.

I've ridden the NH&I probably about a dozen times, and it's the best scenic railroad out there, along with the Black River and Western not far away on the NJ side. Parking is expensive, but us locals know about the municipal lot next door where parking is like a buck an hour. Price are on par with other scenic railroads but keep in mind that NH&I is right in the middle of touristy New Hope. If saving $2 is per ticket is really that big of a deal, the BR&W, the West Chester Scenic Railroad, and the Cape May Seashore Lines (when it's running) are a buck or two cheaper for normal excursions, but serve very different areas than New Hope. With ANY scenic railroad that offers a steamer, you have to check the day you go to be sure it's running. Steamers require a lot more maintenance than diesels do, which - surprise! - is why major railroads don't run them anymore.

Not only was the trip expensive ($99 for two adults & two children) but they charged $15 to park in their lot. Would discourage others from taking the ride.
