“A great family vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2011

We spent 3 nights at the Green Acres Farm B&B and we had a great time. Our kids, ages 3 and 5, loved it! They spent most of their time playing with the adorable kittens. Other activities for the kids included a morning hay ride (this was really fun, because we actually went on the main road - it is not heavily trafficked,) collecting eggs from the chickens, feeding the goats and donkey, trampoline, and playhouses with Amish dress up clothes. It is a very peaceful place where the whole family can get away from the daily routine and stress. The breakfast was a delight - real country food!! You will not leave the table hungry, that's for sure. If you are interested in a country/farm experience, then I would strongly recommend this place.

We just couldn't stay here. It was musty and the home was junky. We hung out for a little while trying to like it, but couldn't settle. We have cat allergies and though the cats are outdoors, we couldn't talk ourselves into staying. The top bunk bed in our room was lined by cardboard and the bedspread was stained. We gave the proprietors $50 for their trouble and went to the Hampton Inn.

If you go on a farm B&B vacation there are certain things you need to expect: farms have animals and they have fleas, there is dust and often bad plumbing or noisy air-con units. If you book a room called "Loft" expect some stairs! You need to get past this, if you want a Five Star hotel, go someplace else. We stayed a couple of nights at Green Acres and our kids loved the trampoline, the playhouses, the swings, the kittens (yes the kittens had fleas, and yes they did their business in the play sand box...). We also found the place abandoned when we arrived as another reviewer mentioned - just a piece of paper with our name and directions to our designated room. But then we've stayed at other places where the folks running the B&B have asked too many personal questions - it depends what you prefer to tolerate. While the kids had a good time and slept ok, the room was not big enough for us and we are quite small people. We also stayed in a loft type room. The "trundle" bed for a 2nd child, was actually a stained old foam and nylon camping mattress. There was not enough room between the bed and the door to the bathroom, without risking stepping on a sleeping child in the night. One of our children had a very definite flea bite on the face from playing near kittens and the quilts that covered the beds could have done with a good wash. But ultimately, the only thing that truly disappointed me, was I found Yvonne to be a little lacking in graciousness. We've stayed at a few places and are always polite to our hosts, so her slightly aggressive manner really was a surprise to us and a little disheartening, to say the least. We won't return to this one.

After traveling for 4 hours we were turned away from Green Acres. I had a printout of my room confirmation and I even called a few weeks ahead of time but when I got there they stated they never heard of us. The couple running the place were like 80 years old & they were looking for our names in a marble notebook in which they wrote in reservations with a pencil. Granted I get it's a bed and breakfast but then don't take online reservations. To be honest, I was a little relieved because the place seemed a little creepy to me anyhow.

The reviewer from Connecticut that gave Green Acres a "terrible" back in 2007 was dead on accurate! We just checked out (early...three years later) and things seem to be the same or worse. As I see it there was too much clutter, too many flies, too much dust, too many rickety stairs, too many guests, too many chairs in the dining room...I could go on. We also had the experience of impersonal treatment by a very aloof and somewhat grouchy, eye rolling hostess. The wooden plank staircase that goes to some rooms on the second floor is steep and quite wobbly...obviously it is not shown in the very flattering pictures of the property.

The hayride and outside activities were the only positive aspect of this property. However, the only space to sit down was outside with the flies....there was no place in the house to sit and relax (partially due to the incredible amount of "stuff" that was everywhere).

If you are claustrophobic, allergic, or handicap....don't go!

We stayed here for two nights- a mini Amish vacation to get away from life for a while. The farm is absolutely gorgeous, and we were met by about 10 friendly kittens. We had the Loft room, and it was a little small for 3 adults and 2 children. Yvonne did have a nice new pack and play which we utilized for my youngest. The website is a bit misleading though because it says there is a pull out mattress, and in reality its a 1" thick pad you set on the floor. I thought it was charming, if not a bit dusty. The only complaint I would have is that there was no bar soap or other toiletries of any kind- only hand soap in a scuzzy dispenser, so we washed ourselves with shampoo ;) We aren't picky though and overlooked that.

The stuff for kids is just great! There are two cool playhouses- a hay loft thing the kids have to climb through to get to the super fast slide. The other playhouse has adorable tables and chairs in it as well as some old fashioned desks, and Amish girl dress up clothes! My 3-year old was in heaven! There are also some plastic farm animals in there for them to play with, which was cool. Then there is the hammock, the trampoline, the swings...my kids LOVED it. And yes, there are actually goats that slide! And the donkeys and chickens were cool too!

The morning hayride was fun, but a little nervewracking, because Wayne takes you on a main road, and people do not have much respect for tractors and buggies and such. Plus, we came kind of close to hitting an 18-wheeler, which was SCARY! The kids got to collect eggs, which was neat. The breakfasts were really good, but like a previous person mentioned, they are kind of strict, and expect children to stay seated throughout the whole dinner, not make too much of a mess, etc.

There is a dirt road you can walk down, and it is really peaceful and nice. The whole farm is just beautiful, and a great place to stay with young kids. I would go back.

We had a wonderful time. The owners are so friendly & helpful. Beautiful country setting. We took our Grandson and he loved it. Wonderful for a family kid friendly vacation. We are going again.
