“My favorite getaway”
Reviewed November 2, 2006

I haven't enjoyed a getaway this much in years! The inn is lovely and has an old world feel to it. My room was like stepping back in time. The pace was relaxed and peaceful.
I was particularly impressed with the staff. Everyone was helpful and upbeat. They think of everything. I got printed driving instructions for each restaurant and each attraction that I visited. Mary, the receptionist was sweet and helped me decide which attractions I'd like to drive to. I am a nervous driver and her suggestions helped me see the neighboring countryside and drive to Hershey stress-free.

The inn keepers were very attentive to our needs and opinions. We felt so at home while loving being so far away from home. My favorite spot was the veranda. We could sit and relax there in the evening and watch as other guests left for dinner. Many guests were friendly and chatted as they saw us sitting there. I loved the sitting area in our room. It was nice to sit and chat there before getting ready for bed.

It was just a lovely time to relax, refresh, and renew. I plan to return when life and my schedule permit..

These innkeepers should probably find another career that does not involve dealing with the public. Reservations, meals, etc. are very regimented with no room for change. This the first bed and breakfast we have experienced where we felt intimidated and unwelcome.

It's too bad, because the proximity to Hershey is great. We will drive the extra miles next time to find a more inviting location.

We stayed at Cameron Estate a couple of weeks ago for a quick Sunday evening getaway. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the drive from the busy city to the bucolic countryside. Driving up Mansion Lane, a treelined street, to see the beautiful historic building ahead of us was a treat. We were greeted by John who showed us to a very elegant room on the second floor with an elaborate matching bedroom set, from Europe. With handsome wallpaper and window treatments, it was a great room. A huge private bath with another piece of the bedroom set furniture even! We enjoyed iced tea on the front porch and the view of the trees and grounds, then we had a walk to explore the area-the nearby Donegal church and the inn's own wedding garden with gazebo. Very pretty. We returned just in time to get ready for dinner at the inn, which was very convenient. The dinner was delicious and the service very friendly. My husband had duck and I had salmon. There was even a little sorbet course during the meal. We were glad we only had to walk upstairs and tumble into our bed, we were so full of good food and wine. The next morning, we were again treated to a delicious meal in the sunny side porch, with pancakes and a nice fruit garnish. It was a short getaway but very relaxing, even though not so good on the waistline! Definitely recommend Cameron Estate for a romantic escape-we enjoyed the fact that there wasn't a television in the room.

This was the most recent of our three stays at The Cameron Inn, and we were as pleased this time as much as we were on our two previous occasions...perhaps even a little more because we greatly enjoyed the anticipation of our latest visit.

The staff is most helpful, never overbearing, always available if needed, and their warm reception made us feel most welcome. The rooms are an experience hard to beat, comfortable in all of their appointments, and very tastefully done. The restaurant is one of the few that has the ability to please all palates, and its staff went out of its way at every meal to make each of our dining experiences a pure pleasure. Walking the grounds is the ideal way to relax and enjoy the quiet countryside.

Our only disappointment is we do not live close enough to be able to visit more often. If we did, we'd likely spend one weekend a month there enjoying all it has to offer. We'll just have to be satisfied with the pleasure, and privilege, of anticipating our next visit.

Thanks for great memories! We're looking forward to next time.

We attended a wedding at the Cameron Estate in November. Aesthetically, this is a beautiful historic mansion, nicely furnished and well appointed. This ends the positive.

We have stayed at several B&Bs in the past. This was, by far, our worst experience. The owners made us feel as if we were intruding on their home. Never a smile and very formal. Our room was very nice, but at this time of the year, it would have been nice to have some heat. There was none. The heater finally came on at 3 a.m. in the morning for about 4 hours. When we mentioned this to the owners, we got a mere shrug of the shoulder. My parent's room was even colder than ours. We tried to use the gas fireplace, but were overcome by fumes. We tried to open a window , but they were all stuck. When they went back to their room later in the evening, not only was there no heat, but now they had to deal with no electricity. When we mentioned this to the owners in the morning, again the now familiar shrug.

Dinner was okay.

Breakfast was unimpressive and disappointing. A few eggs, a slice of french toast and something else that I could not distinguish. Orange juice tasted like it came from a brand x can. No basket of rolls or muffins. This was certainly not what one would expect at an expensive B&B.

We had our son's wedding here. The proprietors are just friendly enough to sign you up but after that they barely make eye contact with you and basically give you the feeling that they are doing you a favor by tolerating you. You had better get up early if you want coffee and breakfast because it is served from 8 am to 9am. And I don't mean 7:55 or 9:05.

We had our reception in the carriage house. We were rushed to finish and get out because they had another party at the Inn and needed the servers for that one.

There were numerous mistakes in the final bill. These were reluctantly corrected and blamed on an underling that made a few mistakes according to the manager whose name begins with an R.

The food at the reception was very good as were the drinks.

The exterior of the Inn is starting to look run down. Oh, and step around the snow removal and groundskeeping equipment as you enter the front door. Such a nice touch.

It is a beautiful spot but the management needs a Dale Carnegie Course. It would be a nice gesture to ask if everything was OK. They are mainly focused on whether you have paid the bill. I would not go back.

My boyfriend and I spent a romantic evening at this beautiful old historic inn recently . I was very impressed by the lovely furnishings and decorative fabrics in the guest rooms (we glanced in all the ones on the first and second floors). Nothing frou-frou here, just old-fashioned luxury. We stayed in the Harvest Room on the second floor. The bed was AMAZINGLY comfortable. Someone said on an earlier post that the sheets were scratchy - no way! When we got into bed, both of us looked at one another and said "Ahhhhhh!" This particular room, though, did not have much of a bathroom - small, with shower only, but the comfy chairs and incredible mirrored armoire made up for that. Breakfast was fresh, homemade and good, with baked oatmeal, a potato cake and one piece of bacon, although portions were perhaps smaller than many b&bs offer. There were a few well-behaved children present.

One suggestion - during a busy time, I would definitely book a room on the second floor, because as lovely as the first floor rooms are, you are right next to the dining room.
