Owner description: Perched on a rock above a gushing waterfall, this historic house was built for a Pittsburgh family by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, ingeniously designed to blend harmoniously into the tranquil and beautiful woods around it.

The grounds and house are immaculate and unbelievable. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. Good experience. Extended tour was worth the extra money.

Visited Fallingwater on a warm November Saturday.
It is about one hour East of Pittsburgh off PA Turnpike plus 25 miles of local roads (good signage)
Best to reserve your TIMED ticket in advance.
tour is limited to group of 15 at a time
It was busy on the weekend I visited
winter visit (i.e. snow) could be problematic
currently $20 but has senior discount.
one hour house tour but you can walk the trail around the area

It is a master piece
the secluded setting is gorgeous
the sound of the waterfall can be heard throughout the house
probably really spectacular in Spring with Rhododenrum in bloom or with Fall colors
closed in January and February
no photography inside during regular tour BUT they have a 2 hour Photogrpaghy tour
there is a marked location to get the outdoor panoramic money shot of this home
has a museum shop, of course.
also has snack bar and restaruant
probably NOT a good place for young children

It had been on my list to visit for a long time. The house itself and the surroundings are fantastic. The view of the waterfalls and the house from the grounds is incredible as many reviewers have noted. It is easy to see what makes Frank Lloyd Wright such a genius. The house itself is not huge, the tour guide makes it last more than one hour with some good explanations of the vision of the architect. Some explanations are goofy just to make the tour last longer. My opinion. My suggestion is that visit it only if you are in the area (within couple of hours of Fallingwater). Do not plan a special visit from far off unless you are an architecture enthusiast, you will be disappointed. Bit expensive at $20 per ticket but thankfully parking is included. You can reserve by calling few days in advance and pay when you arrive there. Don't buy online as they have $2 service charge. Onsite cafe is priced ridiculously high. I don't understand why!

Out of the way and well worth the planning and travel to reach this remarkable home. The home will speak for itself and the many published photos will surely entice visitors. Plan on an hour + for the tour and about another hour for walking the grounds. The only sore spot is the not-so-soft touch fund raising push at the end of the tour. It's as daft and pushy as a condo sales pitch, complete with the sensation of being closed in and force-fed a membership pitch. Sad ending/sour taste in the mouth to an otherwise great trip.

Take care, the staff is undestandably picky about the place, and young children are not welcome.

I've always wanted to visit Fallingwater, the private residence that was designed and built by Frank Lloyd Wright in western PA. The house is cantilevered out over a rushing stream, with the sound audible throughout the whole house. You can stand on one of the several outdoor terraces and look right over the waterfall. Lots of interesting and unique architectural details, and the house itself is set in the woods.
