Went with my family for overnight stay at this small town B&B which is right off of the Allegheny bike trail. (right across the street). Very nice house, bikes provided for small fee. (For those who don't have bikes this was awesome). Otherwise , you would be looking at renting bikes /transport from Cumberland, Maryland up the mountain. (They also offered a large variety of bike accessories if needed ). The kitchen was well stocked. Appreciated having bottled water and energy bars right there to just grab and hit the trail! It is only about 12 miles from there to the highest peak, which is beautiful! Went early July, would love to go back in the fall to see the leafs change. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a small town, slow pace, which was really nice. Lots of tourist attractions close by, short distance to Frostburg, Cumberland, etc. Almost at the peak you go through a massive tunnel on Mt. Savage that's lit up inside. On the other side you have a breath taking view of several counties. (I will mention there is a train station across the street. Trains go through the area during the night. It isn't that loud, had no problem sleeping. But mentioning just for the sake of someone who is a very light sleeper. The tv offered several channels that play various styles of music. We chose one of those which was very relaxing and blocked out the train sound.) The trail is a very gradual incline, fairly smooth. Very nice through shaded woods and farm land. Would definitely go back. (The kitchen has a frig, microwave, coffee maker. The restaurants in the town have odd hours. Check out the places online or by phone in advance. And for people like us, bring along added food or take out to just zap after a long ride) The room rates are extremely reasonable, private bath, cable and A/C. If you need a "break" from the hectic pace and the pricey tourist traps, THIS is the place to go. And even if you don't want to bike ride. There are 2-3 intersections further on the trail where you could park your car and just take a nice walk as well. You can't go wrong!
