“convenient and comfortable”

Hubby and I stayed one night in January for a short getaway. The hotel was a pleasant surprise and good value. The room was nicely appointed with new furnishings and linens, all the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was quiet yet very convenient to local attractions such as Longwood Gardens, Brandywine River Museum, etc. The price included a buffet breakfast with the usual coffee, scrambled eggs, cereals, yogurt and more. They have a cozy tavern and full restaurant onsite. We had cocktails in the tavern (which offered some free munchies) followed by dinner at the restaurant. The decor is charming, the food excellent and the prices reasonable. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Most of the time this restaurant is great, but recenty I had their prime rib special on a Sunday and it was too tough to cut. Our server was OK, but didn't seem to know medium rare from medium well. The rolls and butter were scarce. It's boring to have to ask for such things at a place like this. We're not rushing back.

We normally stay out on the Concord Pike when visiting the Brandywine area, but a customer recommended the Mendenhall. I turned out to be a very convenient base for our tourist activity, and the compact size made it feel very comfortable. Clean and quiet (there is a train track close by, but while the whistle was loud, it only went by once or twice, and not during evening hours).
Longwood gardens about a mile away, and Brandywine museum and Winterthur a ten minute ride. Best of all was the adjacent restaurant. Both hotel and restaurant seemed geared to older, traditional clientele, so not sure if best choice for traveling with children.

Food was good. Service was sensible and attentive. I was served a flat bottle of sparkling water, Pelligrino. Waiter replaced it with a much larger bottle, at the lower price. Problem solved.

Our food was served in a timely fashion, warm and tasty, if safe and conservative. Water and rolls and little balls of butter were served silently but with a splash of ceremony.

The coffee was good.

The decor was old school, the men's room was very clean, and entrees were in the $20 to $30 range.

This is a safe choice, close to Brandywine Valley attractions.

Over the years we have occasionally used the Mendenhall to take family for Easter and Mother's Day buffets. The food is plentiful and buffet - worthy. A safe but not spectacular choice.

I would not take a date here or expect a thrilling dining experience, but the restaurant has its uses.

We liked this clean, comfortable and quiet motel. It is ideally located for Longwood Gardens, the Brandywine River Museum and Winterthur, as well as the numerous other sites in the area; we visited only the ones I listed. It is not the cheapest in the area, but we found the staff helpful and, as I said, the location ideal.
I would bypass the overpriced, overly slow restaurant. It took an hour to actually get our meal in a half-full restaurant. The food was good but the service unacceptable. Ratings below are for the hotel only.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room and got one. It was away from the elevator and the road.

We had made several trips to the Brandywine Valley and stayed at various locations. This is our first visit and we were pleasantly surprised. Service was great and the rates are competitive. We will be staying here again.

I chose the Inn at Mendenhall because it is part of Choice Rewards and because I had stayed at an Ascend Hotel in San Francisco. While not as posh as the San Francisco hotel, the Inn at Mendenhall was clean and quiet. We only stayed one night but the bedding was very clean, very comfortable! We enjoyed having breakfast in the morning. FYI - it ends very promptly at 9:30 I believe. We got there rather close to the end time and the eggs were just about gone and were not refilled. But that was ok, there were still waffles to be made and numerous other choices. Check-in was easy, checking out even more so. We will definitely return to the Inn at Mendenhall!

Room Tip: Our room faced a little garden in the front - even though we were facing the main street, we were no...
