Tyler Arboretum is a nice, kid friendly place to visit. They often have special events and you can arrange to have a tour guide take you around the grounds.

In Pennsylvania.
This is a wonderful place: summer, winter, fall, spring.
An arboretum with plants, trees(Yes: red woods, on the East Coast), shrubs, herbs, etc. Everything is marked with a placard so everyone becomes an expert. Trails, trails, trails. Trails of short to not so short lengths take one over hill and dale, and, yes, up the dusty trail. Bookstore, guides, parking on site. This is a great place to spend an hour or a day; and, still want to return for more. There is even paths with railing containing plaques with descriptions in Braille.
Being in a 4 season part of the country, the blooming, flowering, growing, and color are always changing.
"Bring your Kodak".
There is a book an chachky store, where one can look around at books/guides/memorabilia, noveties, or see a map, or ask for guidance.
Parking on site.
If one has to find a deficit: well, it is not on a main road; but, it is near one. But, finding such an escape from mankind isn't a bad thing, on occasion.

Tyler is a great place for kids-- think tree houses. Check their website for special events. You have to see the sequoia trees-- unusual for the east. Skip the maze.

This place is for the entire family. Treehouses for the kids. Natural gardens that you can meander through. They also have hiking trails that vary in distance.
