“Fun, relaxed and friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2013

Surfari is a place where you instantly feel at home. The staff is friendly and helpful, the vibe is chilled and the rooms and communal areas are clean and nice. There’s a bar, a braai, a trampoline, pool tables and a ping-pong table, as well as three different lounges – and it all surrounds a nice lawn situated in the middle.

Vicbay is one song away by car, and offers good waves for beginners and pros and a nice beach for relaxation. You end up spending most of the day down there, surfing, swimming, tanning and playing beach games. At the end of a long and active day you return to the safe base of Surfari just up the hill, and enjoy beers and the company of friends before you go to bed for a good night’s sleep.

If you’re planning on going anywhere for a surf trip or a get-away from a busy lifestyle, I highly recommend that you visit Surfari. Good prices, a beautiful location and friendly people made the trip to Vicbay and Surfari one of my top three travel experiences ever!

Very nice owning family and staff, very nice rooms, very nice house and a 10 min walk from a very nice beach with a lekker surf. We all felt welcomed. And both George and wilderness are close with restaurants and bars as well as beautiful hikes. And it's affordable! What else would you want?

We were really impressed by this establishment. It was our last stop of a 5 week SA surfari and after having stayed in establishments ranging from backpacker dorm beds to luxurious lodges, we can assure you this place is great value for money. Stylish, simple rooms with modern bathrooms. Clean facilities and safe parking. Great views down the valley to the sea if you're in a sea facing room. We requested a late check in which was accommodated with ease. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to stay in comfort at an affordable rate.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room if possible

We chose this backpackers from the website, which said, "walking distance from beach"...
Hmmm... 1 1/2km (we measured it) down a precipitous road to the beach. "Hiking distance from beach" would be more accurate... And if you were to hike back with your surfboard, you'd need a support team coming behind you with resuscitation kits...!
Having said that, the facilities were fine - it was clean enough and the rooms, though small, and windowless, were comfortable.
We were lucky to have convivial fellow travellers and we had a great evening.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea; the rooms facing the courtyard are noisy - that's where the braai...
