This is just home cooked goodness. Fresh bread, a large menu of options, and a great atmosphere. There is a little bakery fresh cake pies and goodies, and a store with everything from clothes, shoes, toys, and fabric. To top it off you can't beat the scenic drive and restaurant surroundings. Nothing over the top or gourmet, just home cooked comfort food goodness!!!

We discovered Traditions on a trip back home to Altoona/Johnstown a couple of years ago. Every visit to PA we are sure to make at least one trip to enjoy a breakfast at Traditions. The staff is friendly, respectful and efficient. The meals are always incredible. Having breakfast there reminds me of Sunday breakfasts at home when I was growing up. It is really worth the 30+ mile drive to Martinsburg to enjoy an at home atmosphere and family friendly environment. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area or even if it makes you go a little out your way. You will not be sorry that you stopped!!

The service is friendly and efficient. The menu is extensive, with something to attract just about anyone and the portions are most generous except the pie slices which seem to be a bit below scale.
Our recent luncheon meals, meatloaf and a hot turkey sandwich with sides were good but not exceptional, a little bland. The iced tea is first rate.

Traditions is close to the Altoona airport (really 15 miles from Altoona), so if you're headed there you might stop by. I flew into Altoona one day last week and decided on a late breakfast. Afterwards, you can swing by the attached sewing shop and store. The decor is bright, with lots of light wood and Christian sayings. There are hand-sewn large quilts on the wall, available for purchase if you like; the two shown in the photo are $900 and $800 respectively. Service was friendly, quick, and efficient.
Serving plates are very large; as the waitress said, it would be tough to carry more than two at a time. Portion sizes are also very large and rural. I had two large-cut slices of French toast, plus two scrambled eggs and sliced potatoes, for about $7. There were at least four standard menu items with more food. Food quality was very good, particularly the French toast. Using thick local bread improves the taste. I would have appreciated a little less oil in the potatoes. Overall, it's a very fine place, but no food rose to the point of "excellent". Maybe that's a bit harsh, since it's tough to make excellent eggs or home fries, and I would visit again if I'm in the area.
