“Relaxing but not a good money value”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

My husband and I decided that we were long over due for a weekend getaway without the kids as we hadn't taken one since our honeymoon. We read about how the resort is cheesy and a little outdated. We discovered that yes, the resort is outdated but it is actually not nearly as corny as I thought it would be. We arrived late on Friday and first went to our rooms. I was actually presently surprised by the rooms. We stayed at the Lakeside Chalets which has a great view of the lake and the better looking rooms from the outside. The room was large and roomy and included a heart shaped hot tub for two which was one of our favorite features of the resort.
We went back to the lobby and received vouchers for dinners at the Spooners grill because we missed dinner. The food there was ok at best. We watched a little of the evening entertainment and decided to check out the resort a little at first.
Throughout the weekend, we tried paddleboats, bikes, racquet ball, the pool, large hot tub, the sauna, the pool tables, and watched some of the entertainment. Dinner was very good and so was the breakfast buffet.
So the Pro:
1. The meals are very good about what you would expect ordering off the more expensive menu selections of places like Chilis, Outback, Chilis and places like that. We figured the meal probably would have cost the two of us $50 if we had gone out to eat. Saturday night had New York Strip and a dessert buffet including a make our own sundae bar.
We did go hiking in the Delaware Water Gap which I would recommend.
2, The large hot tub by the pool is nice.
3. The staff is super friendly and helpful about things to do in the area
4. The grounds are really beautiful especially the lake.
5. The place is very quiet and serene.
Cons:
1. The price
2. It is not truly an all inclusive. If you want even soft drinks outside of meals, you have to pay for those. Firewood is extra, bubble bath is extra, any of the cool activities were extra, lunch was not included. And everything extra was really expensive.
3. On the second day the room did have a little odor.
4. The air conditioner/heat was rattly.
5. Somebody mentioned that there were a lot of activities and yes there were but it was lot of games like basketball, shuffleboard, and pool. There were not a lot of cool activities included like horseback riding was extra and you had to drive to it. We would do something for a little while and then say "ok now what?"
6. The entertainment could have been better. The comedians are very raunchy and vulgar so be prepared for that. At times they could be very funny though.
7. Everything needs a little updating. The felt on the pool tables is very worn and has holes in it. The golf course needed some work, the game room has very old games, and the gym doubles as the roller rink. The roller rink did not have my husband's shoe size.
8. NO free wifi
Overall, if this were a $200 a night place with everything that was included, I would have rated it as excellent, but at $400 or more a night, I expect more and nicer quality. It was fun, relaxing, and a great weekend to spend with my husband but for the price they really need to step it up and make it more luxurious. At those prices, i want rose petals on my bed, bubble bath, champagne and included carriage rides and a packed days worth of activities with choices not just a few things each day and pretty much the same type of thing.
If you do decide to go and this is your thing, follow the advice of people on here and pack everything to bring with you including
1. bubble bath
2. your own alcohol (if that is what you want to do)
3. your own fire logs
4. your own movies
5. snack and soft drinks (the room does have a fridge).

We had a wonderful time, the suite was very clean, the staff very friendly and nice. The decor is outdated but it adds to the charm. The rooms do have a funny smell but i'm sure it's due to the jacuzzi. The grounds were very nice. We love to golf. The course needs some work but if you go just to have fun, it's fine. Overall very nice and quiet. The food was pretty good, they give you plenty but the breakfast in bed could use some work. There is a lot to do on the grounds: golf, boat, swim, Biking, fishing, gameroom, lounge, entertainment, etc. It's almost cheesy saying "you are entering the land of love" but it's true, everywhere you look, you see couples holding hands, enjoying each other. It does the heart good to spend a weekend there. I would go back.

After married 6 years and two kids later my husband and I decided it was finally time for our first no kids getaway!!! It was well worth everything!!!

The grounds are beautiful especially the pond! Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly staff!! Yes the rooms are a bit dated but loved it.

We had the roman towers and would never stay anywhere else. Love loved that room.

First level had a nice tv, with a DVD player, fireplace and a comfy couch! Up a couple stairs to the left was the pool, sauna and massage table which was perfect! And on the upper level the bathroom with double sink and the famous round bed with star lighting on top of your bed and a balcony overlooking the room below!!! I can express how much I loved it . Also Bose surround sound system that plays in every room!

The activities were good, even though we didn't do the golf course everything else was fun! Pool tables, indoor, outdoor pool, basketball volley ball, roller skating fishing, bike rides, game room , mini golf and daily games.

The breakfast at the club was good made to order and dinners were good as well. Especially strip steak night. The only thing I would suggest needed help was the breakfast in bed option. It doesn't have anything more than a egg and bacon or ham sandwich , cereal and coffee/ juice. There could be more options on that perspective like French toast or pancakes.

Drinks were decently priced about $7-8 dollars some more but no weak at all! Bartenders not much of a personality but waiters/ waitresses awesome ! had a popcorn machine which was a cute touch.

The shows were awesome. The comedians had us rolling. If you are a couple that can't take dirty jokes and sexual innuendos don't go. Very sex oriented shows ..we loved it and would sit upfront every night! The bands were good too.

The cxo host is awesome and hilarious!! Makes everything pretty fun!

The best part for us was the paddle boats and fishing . So serene and great bonding time. They supply you with pole to bait.

If I would suggest something it would be an extra cost for in room massage. We would have loved that either in the resort or in our room. I am pretty sure coven haven has it but pocono palace should look into it.

Because we had gotten there on Thursday and big shows were on weekends, we hit the mount airy casino which is about 15 minutes away which was a good escape as well as the outlet shopping at tannersville which we did in the morning.

We had stayed at the coven haven before but for me this time pocono palace was the best.

Hope they run some specials so we can sneak up there for a getaway again. Please just go and u will love it.

Room Tip: It's so worth the couple extra $$ to stay in the roman towers. Truly amazing

Plusses:
-Great "couples" time
-Lots of on-site activities
-Friendly staff
-Lots of strategically placed mirrors :p
-Red lights :)

Minuses:
-Most suites need updating (the decor is very Hot Tub Time Machine)
-Suites have a funky smell (due to jacuzzi usage / lack of proper ventilation)
-Pricey for what you get

What to bring:
-Your own wine/beer glasses (they don't allow guests to bring glasses back to their suites - must be to discourage BYO drinking / promotion of their own overpriced drinks e.g. one bottle of Barefoot wine $28, in store its $12 .... sort of the PBR of wine like Yellowtail)...like we didn't already pay enough for the bloody room!

-Your own firewood - they suggest $7 Duraflame logs in most of the display cases in the main building....just go outside and forage your own or go behind the local Foodtown on Rt. 209 like we did and grab some broken pallet pieces.....(note to Starwood mgmt: "getting wood" should be included in the base price of the rooms!)

-Bring some Mr. Bubble...they suggest bubble bath in the display cases as well...use only a drop in the jacuzzi - it goes a really long way!

-Bring your sense of irony

-Bring either a VHS tape (yes, some rooms have vhs players) or a DVD because the 80 channels they offer are not in HD (coaxial cable still lives!) and the Phillips flatscreen takes about 5 seconds to change from one channel to the next....although you probably aren't there for the TV (but you might want to watch a DVD/VHS with your lover oh yeah bow-chicka-wow-wowww).

IF you go into this knowing that it is totally corny and lowbrow you can have a wonderful time (once you get past the sticker shock).

Room Tip: The cheapest "jacuzzi suite" has no pictures on the website and for good reason! 1980'...

My wife and I have stayed at Pocono Palace on two occasions now, and we have had an amazing time on both trips. We chose the Garden of Eden Apple suite both times, because we loved it so much on our first visit. The room includes a whirlpool tub, round bed with mirrored ceiling, flat screen TV, Bose sound system with speakers throughout, private in-ground pool and dry sauna! All of that without leaving the room! We tend to spend a lot of time in the room, but the other facilities are just as awesome, from the 9-hole golf course, billiard room and even a lake for fishing and boating! They also feed you really well, with breakfast and dinner included in your stay, and the staff is very helpful and hard-working. Can't wait to go back!
