“30th Anniversary Celebration”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

Had an amazing 30th Anniversary Celebration at Pocono Palace Resort. Our suite was 3 levels to include a pool, sauna, fireplace, heart shaped jacuzzi (my favorite) and balcony overlooking the water. Would love to return soon!

Room Tip: Be sure to experience everything that Pocono Palace has to offer while spending quality time with yo...

Plusses:
-Great "couples" time
-Lots of on-site activities
-Friendly staff
-Lots of strategically placed mirrors :p
-Red lights :)

Minuses:
-Most suites need updating (the decor is very Hot Tub Time Machine)
-Suites have a funky smell (due to jacuzzi usage / lack of proper ventilation)
-Pricey for what you get

What to bring:
-Your own wine/beer glasses (they don't allow guests to bring glasses back to their suites - must be to discourage BYO drinking / promotion of their own overpriced drinks e.g. one bottle of Barefoot wine $28, in store its $12 .... sort of the PBR of wine like Yellowtail)...like we didn't already pay enough for the bloody room!

-Your own firewood - they suggest $7 Duraflame logs in most of the display cases in the main building....just go outside and forage your own or go behind the local Foodtown on Rt. 209 like we did and grab some broken pallet pieces.....(note to Starwood mgmt: "getting wood" should be included in the base price of the rooms!)

-Bring some Mr. Bubble...they suggest bubble bath in the display cases as well...use only a drop in the jacuzzi - it goes a really long way!

-Bring your sense of irony

-Bring either a VHS tape (yes, some rooms have vhs players) or a DVD because the 80 channels they offer are not in HD (coaxial cable still lives!) and the Phillips flatscreen takes about 5 seconds to change from one channel to the next....although you probably aren't there for the TV (but you might want to watch a DVD/VHS with your lover oh yeah bow-chicka-wow-wowww).

IF you go into this knowing that it is totally corny and lowbrow you can have a wonderful time (once you get past the sticker shock).

Room Tip: The cheapest "jacuzzi suite" has no pictures on the website and for good reason! 1980'...

My wife and I have stayed at Pocono Palace on two occasions now, and we have had an amazing time on both trips. We chose the Garden of Eden Apple suite both times, because we loved it so much on our first visit. The room includes a whirlpool tub, round bed with mirrored ceiling, flat screen TV, Bose sound system with speakers throughout, private in-ground pool and dry sauna! All of that without leaving the room! We tend to spend a lot of time in the room, but the other facilities are just as awesome, from the 9-hole golf course, billiard room and even a lake for fishing and boating! They also feed you really well, with breakfast and dinner included in your stay, and the staff is very helpful and hard-working. Can't wait to go back!

The good: I get the whole idea of the resort couples spending quality time together away from the chaos of everyday life. For all intensive purposes this is exactly what my husband and I did during this trip. The resort as a whole was serene quiet and the surroundings i.e. lake was beautiful, there weren't many people there the week we went so essentially we had everything to ourselves. The food especially breakfast was excellent, even the buffet, dinner was ok nothing amazing but it wasn't bad. Overall the staff was friendly and very accomodating.

The bad: I don't mind spending a substantial sum of money for travel. In fact I prefer to spend alot on vacations. However generally when I'm spending $300 a night on accomodations they are typically very cleanly and luxurious with tier 1 service. This was not the case at Pocono Palace. The first room we were given was "horrible" it had an indescribable odor, the shower stall seemed to have mold, spider webs, insects. Just awful, I believe this was called the fairway suite it was located right on the lake. We went back to check in and explained there was no way we could stay in that room. We asked to be shown other accomodations. We were shown 3 other rooms all better then the first but none really as luxurious as I was expecting for $300 bucks a night. We opted for a Garden of Eden room, which included an indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and round bed. While the room wasn't terrible, I have an issue with outdated carpet and furniture. The bed was extremely uncomfortable to the point that we decided to rotate it ourselves. The indoor pool was a nice touch however on the second day a bee managed to land in it and which skeeved me out beyond words. I got to thinking how the filter in my own pool would have immediately flushed the bee from the pool. Which made me believe the filter was faulty thus the water was likely compromised and had traces of previous guests bodily fluids. As for the guests and resort entertainment. My husband and I are middle aged, I would say majority of the guest at this resort were retired and much older then us. The entertainment seemed to be geared toward the retired set.

My overall opinion is it's not a terrible resort. We actually had a good time taking excursions off the property. We went to a gun range, horse back riding and Bushkill Falls which btw was extremely beautiful. Honestly I doubt that I would ever go back because my impression of the resort as a whole wasn't all that great. It really it what you make it though.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the fairway suites. The Garden of Eden while not what I'm used to was probabl...

We had a great time, the staff was the best, everyone was so kind and the games were cheesey but oh so much FUN!!!! we deffinitly bonded over teaming up. However the bed was a bit uncomfortable to sleep in (almost felt like it was caving in) but non the less the food was good entertainment very nice and great place to relax with the one you love. We will be back.

Room Tip: speak to the front desk with an issues they are extremely helpful.

We recently returned from our 9th stay; 6th trip to Pocono Palace. We love the Palace!! The staff is outstanding; from guest services to maintainence. They are always so friendly and helpful. I like that the resort is just one building, you don't have to hop from one building to another. The grounds are not too big, you can walk to the Arena from your room if you choose to do so. My husband likes to play golf so each time we go we play. The course is good, the 8th hole is unplayable due to the close proximity of the roadway and the winter plowing. It's not pristine but playable. The games/activities they have during the day are anything from pool jarts, backseat driver to bingo and horseracing. Now these are just some of the summer outdoor games, the winter games will vary. There is also the on property activities; archery, paddle boats, speed boat/banana boat rides, to the indoor game room, mini golf and b-ball court. Snowmobiles and cross country skiing in the winter. They just built a bocce ball court this summer. There are not enough hours in the day to do it all!
We stayed in the Champage Tower; first time since 2005, and it was everything I remembered. Love the starlight ceiling in the bedroom and above the jacuzzi. The room when we walked in was very clean. They had recently painted around the pool. They have removed the egyptian painting from the front doors and the room we had no longer had the pyramid mural in the pool room.
The food is great! If you go hungry while you are here it is your own fault! The breakfast buffet is large and has many things to choose from. The "quickie" is their breakfast in bed service. It is just cereal and breakfast sandwiches but it is good. If you want you can order your breakfast in bed early and then go down the dining room for the buffet before 11am.You can also order from the kitchen if there is something you like; such as an omlet or toast. On the slower days, you order from the menu. The lounge has appetizers starting at 5pm and each evening they have a late night snack. Dinner is very good - during the week you order from the menu. Friday it's "Fat Paulies" a large Italian buffet and Saturday night is "Strip Night" sit down steak dinner. They also have the cafe that you can order from during the day or room service, but it is additional. They also have a cooking show "Flames of Passion" where Janice makes some great tasting recipes that you get to taste. You also get a copy of the recipe so you can make it when you return home. The drinks at the bar are a bit high, but not outrageous. $5.00 domestic beer and mixed drinks can vary. Some you even get to keep the glass.
The evening entertainment is not something I can really comment on, we usually do not stay. However the band Group Du Jour is fabulous! They keep you moving on the dance floor, from slow dances to the cupid shuffle! You must see the XXX Newleywed/not so newleywed game! It is very funny and very raunchy. Those who are easily offened by sexual humor should not watch. But they also have a rated R one, too.
I have seen a lot of reviews where people have issues to what type of tv is in the room, to spider webs in the outdoor light fixtues. They are always updating the resort; adding flat screen tv's, repainting, removing/replacing wallpaper, putting the new blush beds in the rooms. But they are also having to do this all around the rooms being occupied. There are comments that it is dated from the 70's and 80's. Since I grew up in these eras, I guarantee you that there is no shag carpeting, no psychadelic wallpaper or large orb light fixtures. If you are coming here and have issues with what kind of tv is in the room or the outdoor light fixtures then you are missing the point. However if anything is not to your liking, let them know!!!! They will do everything they can to make it right. If you don't say anything how are they to know you are not satisified?
But most of all it's what we get out of one another from our stays here. We have quality alone time to be together to talk, laugh, love and to play like a kid again. Everything else, the room, the staff and the activites help us to do just that. To take a 'time out' of life and responsibilities and just be the two of us.
Thanks again Pocono Palace!! Cannot wait to come back!
