We recently returned from our 9th stay; 6th trip to Pocono Palace. We love the Palace!! The staff is outstanding; from guest services to maintainence. They are always so friendly and helpful. I like that the resort is just one building, you don't have to hop from one building to another. The grounds are not too big, you can walk to the Arena from your room if you choose to do so. My husband likes to play golf so each time we go we play. The course is good, the 8th hole is unplayable due to the close proximity of the roadway and the winter plowing. It's not pristine but playable. The games/activities they have during the day are anything from pool jarts, backseat driver to bingo and horseracing. Now these are just some of the summer outdoor games, the winter games will vary. There is also the on property activities; archery, paddle boats, speed boat/banana boat rides, to the indoor game room, mini golf and b-ball court. Snowmobiles and cross country skiing in the winter. They just built a bocce ball court this summer. There are not enough hours in the day to do it all!
We stayed in the Champage Tower; first time since 2005, and it was everything I remembered. Love the starlight ceiling in the bedroom and above the jacuzzi. The room when we walked in was very clean. They had recently painted around the pool. They have removed the egyptian painting from the front doors and the room we had no longer had the pyramid mural in the pool room.
The food is great! If you go hungry while you are here it is your own fault! The breakfast buffet is large and has many things to choose from. The "quickie" is their breakfast in bed service. It is just cereal and breakfast sandwiches but it is good. If you want you can order your breakfast in bed early and then go down the dining room for the buffet before 11am.You can also order from the kitchen if there is something you like; such as an omlet or toast. On the slower days, you order from the menu. The lounge has appetizers starting at 5pm and each evening they have a late night snack. Dinner is very good - during the week you order from the menu. Friday it's "Fat Paulies" a large Italian buffet and Saturday night is "Strip Night" sit down steak dinner. They also have the cafe that you can order from during the day or room service, but it is additional. They also have a cooking show "Flames of Passion" where Janice makes some great tasting recipes that you get to taste. You also get a copy of the recipe so you can make it when you return home. The drinks at the bar are a bit high, but not outrageous. $5.00 domestic beer and mixed drinks can vary. Some you even get to keep the glass.
The evening entertainment is not something I can really comment on, we usually do not stay. However the band Group Du Jour is fabulous! They keep you moving on the dance floor, from slow dances to the cupid shuffle! You must see the XXX Newleywed/not so newleywed game! It is very funny and very raunchy. Those who are easily offened by sexual humor should not watch. But they also have a rated R one, too.
I have seen a lot of reviews where people have issues to what type of tv is in the room, to spider webs in the outdoor light fixtues. They are always updating the resort; adding flat screen tv's, repainting, removing/replacing wallpaper, putting the new blush beds in the rooms. But they are also having to do this all around the rooms being occupied. There are comments that it is dated from the 70's and 80's. Since I grew up in these eras, I guarantee you that there is no shag carpeting, no psychadelic wallpaper or large orb light fixtures. If you are coming here and have issues with what kind of tv is in the room or the outdoor light fixtures then you are missing the point. However if anything is not to your liking, let them know!!!! They will do everything they can to make it right. If you don't say anything how are they to know you are not satisified?
But most of all it's what we get out of one another from our stays here. We have quality alone time to be together to talk, laugh, love and to play like a kid again. Everything else, the room, the staff and the activites help us to do just that. To take a 'time out' of life and responsibilities and just be the two of us.
Thanks again Pocono Palace!! Cannot wait to come back!
