The Savory Grille has been our special occasion go-to restaurant for many years. Tonight was again a wonderful experience. We called ahead to ask for one of our favorites, the coffee-encrusted filet. It was not on the menu, but they had it for us. From Spanish octopus and lobster appetizers, through the fillet entree (we intended to get a second entree and share, but we both love the fillet so much that we each ordered it) to the unbelievably chocolate heaven truffle/mousse dessert, it was fabulous. The service was excellent, our server was David.

As always, we will be back!

I remember when it first opened and it was tiny, but had great food. It is located in a beautiful setting on a mountain in a rural area near Allentown, Pa. They added a charming addition to handle all the customers who were craving their extraordinary food.

My wife and I have dined at the Savory for at least five times over the years. We do live about 18 minutes drive time away. There is no question that the food quality and service is excellent, however, we do feel that the dining experience at this price level should take into consideration that much more, the ambiance of the experience. In our opinion the background music is not paired very well with the food offerings. It is a well known fact that instrumental music (no vocals) of either jazz or classical is the most widely (generationally) enjoyed music while eating. "Head banging" doesn't mesh well with Savory's offerings. Since smell is also a part of the eating experience we also noted the windows were open allowing the fragrance of the outside vegetation in, which, somewhat clashed with the food aroma. We believe that when you cross a certain money mark in your eating experience that every facet is held to a higher expectation.

We haven't been to The Savory Grille in at least a couple of years, so we were due for a visit to celebrate a special night.
When we entered the service was kind and attentive. There were a few servers helping us with water, bread, drink orders and appetizers brought.
Let's start with the great: their wine list isn't huge but the selection is good. The beer list also is not huge but they have a great assortment of styles. A few micros are on tap as well.
They brought out a complimentary crostini with a hummus that was attractive and tasty. We started with a duck breast appetizer and it was delicious. Two varieties of homemade bread were served and also wonderful and accompanying salads were delish.
Prior to delivery of our entrees, the service was outstanding. Then we waited almost 30 minutes AFTER we were done with our app before our entrees were served. I would have expected a server to at least come over and tell us our entrees would be out soon or even perhaps a verbal apology, but nothing.
During our entrees, no one came to ask us if we needed anything - lucky for us, we didn't. However, it took a long time for anyone to offer a box for take-home, then even longer for dessert selection.
We wanted dessert and coffee, but we were already there two hours and we were afraid to wonder how long this would take. They told us the dessert selections, I ordered one to go and asked for the check. When we got the check, no one came to take our card for 10 minutes. I had to walk up to the bar and ask for someone to take my check. The bartender said she couldn't ring it out, so she had to get a server anyway. The bartender had no idea how long we had been waiting prior and really, I was just trying to salvage the evening so I didn't say anything.
The food was so good, I'm overlooking the fact that the service was so poor after the appetizers. The restaurant wasn't that busy, and a larger party seated after us received all of their food and beverages long before us. If you are a stickler for great service, I'd set low expectations for The Savory Grille.
I know we'll be back because the food is really great, but what a disappointment with the service.

Delicious high quality food with beautiful presentation. Our party of 7 on Father's Day all enjoyed our meals. It is definitely off the beaten path but well worth it. Entrees range mostly from $30-$40 so not cheap, but very tasty.
