We visited the fort in early July and I must say, this is an awesome site!!! History seems to come alive at the place. Artifacts galore and a replicated fort with a moat and everything! You could actually look to the skyline of the mountains and hear the echo's of the cannon's. The museum is really informative with tons of exhibits! I think this fort is overlooked too often by people and taken for granted! I learned so much! and I cant wait to go back for the re-enactment days!!! This is definitely a fort to see before you die AND bring all the kids you can because they will enjoy it just as much!!!

We spent a delightful and informative several hours at Ft. Ligonier, even though it was a cool, slightly rainy June day.

The museum/interpretive center portion of the Fort is excellent. We learned a great deal about the French and Indian War and the fort through two major exhibits. One was largely based on the archaeology that had been conducted at the fort and the other was a very detailed explanation of the War - a war that encompassed not only North America and the Caribbean, but that ultimately spread around the globe. There is also a very nice portrait gallery, with beautiful works illustrating many of the main players.

After lunch (the Fort has a very nice system where one can leave and reenter the same day without paying again) we toured the reconstructed fort itself. The reconstruction is very well done, with exhibits illustrating a given building's use. The interpretive information is well done.

The museum is totally accessible, but be aware that if one has mobility problems, the way up to the fort involves a bit of a steep walk (paved) and the fort itself is on several levels while most buildings require a step up (or steps down) to enter.

The staff were most pleasant and helpful and were clearly enjoying their work. If you are ever in this area of Pennsylvania, I would highly recommend a visit. You will come away with a great deal more knowledge about this part of American history!

A lot of history packed into a well laid-out attraction. The grounds are well kept and the staff was friendly.

I'd recommend visiting when school's out as it's a popular field trip destination. Even with groups of younger visitors about, it's worth the trip. You can learn about the importance of the area during the Seven Years' War.

However, if you're frightened by realistic mannequins, you might want to bypass this.
