Ever have fun in the rain? Splash around in puddles? Let the big drops come down full on your face? Well, that's what happened to me at Idlewild on July 4th. You'd think the thunder storm would spoil the day, but not at Idlewild. You see...it was the playground of my childhood, and I was there once again with my parents and my own child. Idlewild...just the name brings a smile to my face...remembrances of cook-outs, romping with my sister and friends, sharing a quiet moment by the river with my dear old piano teacher now past on....If you are ever in Ligonier, don't miss the opportunity. Take your family ...your parents and children...go to a place from the past with white picket fences and ice-cream cones...old fashioned roller coasters and Merry go rounds. You won't be disappointed...not for a moment. It's a beautiful place...even in the rain!

Soak Zone changing room is so hot you could have a heat stroke. Get some air circulating in there, also the family changing rooms are so hot I wanted to leave the door open. Come on take a few cement blocks out for ventilation. Smoking area no one seems to patrol at soak zone smoking areas some people were out over 30 ft from the smoking area. Where are they throwing the butts. Life guard did nothing to resolve the situation, we left, TRAINING ? Smoking by the lazy river is to close to the lazy river. Employees are not trained or supervised. At hootin Holler the employees could not find new salt for the fries the packets had gotten wet. I asked 5 employees. Clueless. Had a cyclone, 8 strawberries 2 half scoops of Ice cream, and 1 ring of whipped creme. I had noticed a boy walking in front of me and I said to my daughter wow. His was double than mine. TRAINING ? Turtle went around 4 times next time different operator 8 times, both times no one waiting in line to ride. TRAINING ? Rides have to be counter balanced, that's kinda scary. Tea cups not running. Not on sheet with the other 3 rides that weren't running. Closings are always different... They claim weather, attendance. Kids get disappointed when you go to jumpin jungle and they decided to close early. Pizza is lousy. It is frozen pizza can't you find a better brand?

After visiting this park for over 30 years, I returned several weeks ago to find that things are not as nice as they once were - or should be. Multiple rides were closed - and after speaking with several season pass holders I learned that some, like the Wild Mouse roller coaster, have not been open at all this year.

They removed a ride - the Caterpillar - and have not replaced it with another. Miss Lizzy's Hotel (an optical illusion ride) appears to be permanently closed and not replaced with another ride...and several restaurants are also boarded up.

All in all, the number of closed venues gave a bit of a depressing air to the place.

The park maintenance also appears to be slipping below previous standards - little things from the amount of litter on the ground to the peeling paint on some attractions and buildings - seem to point to management that cares more about your entry fee than in providing an experience on par with it's "Best in World" ranking.

Mister Roger's Neighborhood had one malfunctioning exhibit and all of the stops on the trolley could benefit from some paint and general TLC. As I said before - this once pristine park is now a bit shopworn and average.

The waterpark is great on a hot day - but prepare for immense crowds and a bit too much goose droppings for my tastes. The wave pool is not nearly as much fun as the old standard pool it replaced - again - so crowded on a sunny day that it's not possible to enjoy the waves without feeling impossibly close to the other park visitors.

There are many high points about a visit to Idlewild - the atmosphere under the trees is great and the park retains many nice old fashioned traits...but I hope they can get it back on track before it deteriorates too far.

Even though the park was very full, the lines for the water slides weren't extremely long at all. Their wave pool is also great, giving you the chance to play in small waves or larger ones that break over you.

My boys are 8 and twins 5. While the park has years on it, its charm and family atmosphere is awesome. Heavily shaded even on the hottest days there are places to escape.

The ability to pack a cooler and picnic is a huge draw. Healthy food for my family at no hurt to the wallet....except for the ice cream cones :-)

Story Book Forest is definitely dated. But if you read Fairy Tales to your little ones they come alive for a child here. No elaborate 3-D but it is what you make of it.

The Soak Zone was clean and staff was friendly. The water was awesome my kids loved it.

Don't go expecting Disney...that it is not. It is wholesome and charming and very much affordable. We go every year!
