Chestnut Manor Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 1 Lewistown B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 13, 2013

We stayed at Chestnut Manor after the Penn State/Michigan game. All rooms were filled with Michigan fans- and we are Penn State fans. The guests were so lovely and we enjoyed having breakfast with them.
Jim and Launa are such generous hosts. They showed us all around the property and made sure we were comfortable. The B&B is just gorgeous! It is an old mansion from 1877. Every room is meticulously decorated. Jim and Launa keep it perfectly clean and it feels like we are their family- and we hadn't ever met them before the weekend! They spent time talking with us and telling us how they came to buy the property and what it means to them.
We are definitely staying with them again! We LOVE it there! We have traveled all over the country and I can promise you- you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: All rooms are beautiful!

For anyone thinking about visiting a B&B, THIS, is the place...you won't see anything like this house anywhere...peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, the architecture is phenomenal and the owners go out of their way to ensure you're comfortable! Each room is period correct, which adds to the charm and the grace of the 19th century house .....and the breakfasts are delicious!.... so If you're looking for a quiet getaway, or travelling to a Penn State football game (only 30 minutes from State College) you won't be disappointed in the Chestnut-Manor Bed and Breakfast. Thank you Jim & Launa..... see you again!!

Room Tip: ANY room is incredible....we chose the Mifflin Room....sun porch, private bathroom, rear porch, and...

We just got home from a night's stay at Chestnut Manor .One night was not enough! The home is beautiful, and Jim and Launa were such wonderrful hosts. They made us feel so at home. It was nice just sitting around talking with them As for he rooms, each room was decorated differently and one was as beautiful as the next. And the beds.....most comfortable we've slept in,!. The bedding was so nice also..It was such a nice stay that we're already thinking of a reason to go back to the area, Thanks again, Launa and Jim.

We stayed at Chestnut Manor under unfortunate circumstances. My grandmother had passed away, and the members of my immediate family needed a place to stay at the last minute. The innkeepers were very gracious and opened up the manor outside of the weekend, which doesn't normally happen. The innkeeper traveled from Harrisburg to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.

We stayed one night at the Chestnut Manor, and can honestly say it was very welcoming and a beautiful space. If you appreciate history and want a charming space, then this is the place for you.

The breakfast was also very good, with the innkeeper giving my wife gluten-free waffles.

We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend Chestnut Manor to anyone visiting the area.

We stayed at this B&B because it is the only one in Lewistown proper and my girlfriend grew up in Lewistown and has relatives near by. It is a beautiful building, still in the process of being fully converted into a B&B by the innkeepers, although our room was quite lovely. The innkeepers were very friendly and particularly interested in making sure we enjoyed our experience. They were flexible on breakfast, willing to accommodate our needs and wishes. Launa grew up in Lewistown and they are making an effort accumulate local menus for restaurants in town. Obviously this B&B can accommodate visitors to Penn State, but as another reviewer noted they have chosen not to raise their posted rates to take advantage of peak travel times for Penn State.

Parking is a little interesting if you come from a city. On street parking on Chestnut states you can’t stay more than 12 hours, but I don't know how strictly that is enforced. There is an optometrist's office with parking lot across the street that seems only to care if someone parks there during business hours, and maybe not even then. The B&B is also on the corner of Logan Street, but it is one way the wrong way and therefore a bit more difficult to get to (but an obvious alternative for parking). Coming from a city, I was a little confused about how relaxed it all seemed.

The bed in our room came up to our waists. It was a tad difficult to get into, but the mattress was really, really soft.

Room Tip: All the rooms have their pluses. We stayed in the Mann Master Bedroom, which was really nice, spacio...

We made reservations at this B and B, because it was really the only place that did not raise it's prices for a local college, freshman "move in" weekend. It turned out to be a very good decision. The home is charming, well appointed and so full of history. The innkeepers were knowledgeable, friendly and made us feel right at home. The inn was so clean, comfortable and so very beautiful. Too bad we don't travel EVER to Pennsylvania!!!! Jim and Luana, job well done and may you have many years at Chestnut Manor. We had a wonderful weekend!!!! Thank you.
