“Don't Expect to sleep unless your a wedding guest”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2011

We attempted to stay for a relaxing quiet weekend. I wish that it was. The walls were paper thin and the floor above our room was that of the spa, so all we heard was high heels walking above us. Once night came we got to hear all the guest rooms around us and even a guest throwing up for about 2 hours. If you book a room on the top floor you might have more luck. Beware that if you book online they might lose your reservation because they just get a fax to indicate that you booked it, and then they have to input it into their system, which in our case the fax was misplaced. It was very beautiful for weddings but not for a weekend getaway like the website says. We left early to come home to get some sleep!

Our goal at the Inn at Leola Village is to exceed our guests overall expectation regarding their visit. If a guest is not happy with a particular aspect of their stay we will correct the problem immediately, including if necessary, relocating the guest to another guest room. With 62 uniquely appointed rooms and suites, I am confident we would have been able to find the perfect alternate accommodation, if the concern would have been brought to our attention. All of our reservations are inputted into our system immediately in order for a confirmation number to be assigned to each parties request of dates. Further we encourage all of our guests to remember to take note of their confirmation number that appears on their electronic copy. This will ensure a more seamless arrival when checking in at the front desk should a mishap occur.

We just returned from a 2-night stay at the Inn. We rented a suite in the barn. It was cozy but near the pool which was very loud with children until it closed at 9 p.m. (At least on Saturday). We had to keep the French doors closed or be inundated with noise.

Our trouble started early. We had to return three times to check in while encouraged to believe we might check in early. We dealt with the manager (who didn't even know the hotel was given the Historic Hotel honor by the National Trust). We ended up being able to check four hours after we first inquired and an hour after the advertised check in time. A glass of wine was offered to compensate for our lost time and inconvenience.

Later that day, our room key did not work after we returned from a walk (on the path that surrounds the property). We had to return to the lobby three times and the key still didn't work so on two occasions we had to get let in our room by the desk staff. One admitted that they had been having problems with the door lock but we hadn't been told on check in. I ended up getting rained on during one of my visits to the lobby to get help.

The next day we were out by 9 a.m and returned at 4:30 p.m. after touring all day. We were tired and ready to relax but we found that our room had still not even been made up yet. We called the front desk and within 10 minutes a woman who spoke no english showed up, hastily threw our bed together, didn't bother to take our trash and left. We were told by the desk that they were busy yet the hotel was deserted Sunday

The manager was again on duty when we checked out Monday and we told her of the continuing problems with the service. She insincerely apologized and offered some small compensation. I didn't chose to haggle and found the whole event distatestful and surprising for a hotel that charges you $250/night and aspires fo become a five diamond property. It is a far cry from that.

In fairness Mazzi was an interesting experience and we enjoyed it but it too is not cheap. with tip, we spent $150 for a 2-course meal, one glass of wine and sparkling water.
We have traveled extensively and I can only say if a hotel is going to occupy this price range, it must provide better service.

Leola is just outside Lancaster PA and is a best value in the area. The old part of the hotel is wonderfully restored and well laid out with a kitchenette and large bathroom. The bed was very comfortable also. While it appeared a bit understaffed when we checked in, the front desk young man was very accommodating and very energetic in welcoming us and helping with our bags to our room. Two restaurants are on premises and both are good - Italian themed, one very formal and expensive, the other more casual and less expensive.
The hotel was transformed form an old tobacco farm and the original farm house is where we stayed. There are rooms in the newer part of the complex. There is a pool and spa and it is close to many charming towns in the area.

Room Tip: Ask to stay in the 'Old Bard House' for more charm and ambiance. Pack light. No elevator in...

I really loved this hotel and was quite sorry to leave- I could have easily stayed a few more days. Not only were the staff excellent, but the rooms were fantastic. Everything had been thought of. Our room had 2 queen size beds, a lounge area, a kitchenette and a large bathroom.

We had dinner at the hotel and really enjoyed it. The bar downstairs was lovely and not a bad place to pass the afternoon. Breakfast was good- nothing outstanding but not terrible either.

This place is the place to stay in an overwhelmingly interesting part of the US

We found the Inn at Leola Village to be one of the greatest hotels we have ever visited. Yes, we love the Greenbrier, the Inn at Little Washington and the Bedford Springs Hotel, but the Inn at Leola Village offered something these others missed, REAL HOSPITALITY.

From check in with Mark Anthony, to the moment we departed, everyone offered us warmth and friendly service. Our couples massage was blissful and dinner at the Inn's Italian restaurant was awesome and better that the 4 Diamond rating the boast.

Our room was clean, quiet and filled with cool stuff and more. We got a fantastic night sleep and really enjoyed the giant slate shower and rain water shower head. Excellent!!

Anyway, it's clear that the owners of the Inn at Leola Village take comfort and hospitality of its guest very seriously. The place is impeccable, beautiful and had more than we expected.

We will return, for sure!

I stayed here twice in the last 3 or 4 weeks: 1) for a girls' getaway weekend (with their package, which was a no brainer and I would totally do again); and 2) for an overnight after a family member passed away. Restaurant service was exceedingly slow both times, but the first trip was otherwise a delight. While Italian is the focus of the restaurants, I'm not sure why they don't take a note from Gordon Ramsey and focus on simple, locally grown Lancaster foods, rather than overly elaborate preparations. Alas. On the second visit, I was quoted the wrong room rate ($30 less than the actual rate), and considering I spent about as much at the spa as on the room, I was disappointed that the hotel would not honor the rate and with the lukewarm response (which alone would have discouraged a future stay but for the nice rooms, and relaxing pool and spa. The rooms both times were clean and well appointed (considering I usually take my own sheets and towels). Not an experienced spa goer, but I was very pleased both times with the services there - especially Sue for massage and Tiffany for facial. In fact, the spa was the big incentive to return (and remains so). The pool, while not large, is adult- (not child-) focused. When paired with a visit to the spa, this is a 5-star getaway, reduced to 4 because of the disappointing hotel customer service.

We chose this location because it had come highly recommended by some friends. It looked great on the website as well. We called on the phone for reservations and booked a room in the barn. We called later to see what time we could check in and when they returned the call is was at 10:40 at night which I thought was strange. Upon checking in we discovered that they gave us the wrong room and had upgraded us to a dinner package at the extra cost of over $100! We received no apology and the front desk staff was not overly friendly. They did take off the dinner package, but again with no apology. The place is absolutely gorgeous, but much of the decor in the room had price tags hanging from it. Not sure if it was an accident, or they were for sale, but either way we thought it was tacky. The grounds were immaculate, but the pool was dirty. The aquabot was in the water but not turned on. Breakfast consisted of canned fruit, dry bagels and a few other items. The walls were paper thin, so much that we could hear the cell phone ringing in the room next door. Because of this we got little sleep, as you could hear everything going on around you. It was okay, but certainly not what you would expect from such a beautiful place. We would not return, which is really sad becuase it looks so great from the outside!!!!
