“Local hot spot”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Service is slow. Don't go if you are in a hurry. The food is fine. This is a place locals go to eat and drink. Nice atmosphere and summer deck. My family loves the Blue Bird. I think it is good but the nearby Quentin Tavern has better food.

“Good food, decent price, great deck & nice beer selection”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

The Blue Bird Inn (or BBI as it's known locally), is a recently refurbished old inn which boasts a wonderful deck for dining in nicer weather. They always have interesting beer on tap and their food is consistently good. Their service can sometimes be slow, though.

“Nice menu, nice space, mediocre execution”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

We were looking for something different from our usual dinner spots around York and on a recommendation made the drive up to Cornwall to check this place out. First impressions were great--big parking lot, nice old building with lots of character, spacious dining and bar area and a very spacious deck with tons of seating and a cool sort of tikki bar in the middle. Expectations were pretty high at that point. Our waitress was a little in the weeds when we were seated so the hostess took our drink order. The beer and cocktail selection was surprisingly good with some nice craft beer options (including one on cask) and some cool vodka infusions (cucumber-melon, for example). The menu covered all the bases one might expect from a place like this--apps, dinner salads, sandwiches/wraps, pasta dishes, steaks and some seafood selections. The descriptions all sounded well-thought-out and just quirky and different enough to be interesting. We started off with a summer squash bruschetta which was nicely done--a basic bruschetta with the addition of summer squash. My companions ordered the baby back ribs with mashed potatoes and a beef brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, both of which were excellent. Judging by the heaping piles of sweet potato fries floating by on nearly every plate leaving the kitchen my guess is that this place is known for these. I unfortunately ordered what sounded like an interesting idea--a Everything Bagel Crusted Australian Sea Bass with white asparagus (I ordered the saffron "risotto" as a side). The fish was small, bland, dry and under-cooked and there were about four pieces of asparagus on the plate. These were sloppily presented on a bed of arugula. The "risotto" was served on a side plate and at a distance looked like a pile of mashed potatoes. It tasted like it had been made days ago (that morning at best) and warmed in a chafing dish all day. It too was flavorless and had the consistency of a poorly executed rice pudding.

The waitress stopped back several times during the meal but never asked how everything was until she was clearing the plates at which point she noticed my half eaten fish and barely touched mound of "risotto pudding" and said something like "so you didn't like yours so much" or something to that effect. I told her everything else was really good but that the sea bass and risotto were pretty awful. She pretty much just smiled and looked at me like, "sorry for your luck."

I would go back to give them a second chance but would make sure to stick to the basics and probably try to go when it's less busy.

“Retirement Party”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

We had two retirement parties at the Blue Bird in August; one was associates saying good-by on Friday night and the other was a family congratulations party on Saturday afternoon. During both parties the food was excellent and the wait staff was fantastic.
During the second party we had a room to ourselves and were not rushed to vacate it. Everyone at the party had an excellent time. My only complaint, it was hard to contact the lady in charge of the reservations, but everything came together in the end. Thank you Blue Bird.

“Our favorite hangout”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Includes all the good parts: busy well stocked bar, lots of dining space, diverse menu, delicious innovative specials, don't miss the soups, and the various parts of the place are airy, or cozy, or respectable for more formal meals, etc. Gets noisy at peak times, but that feels good too.
