“Great attraction!”
Reviewed October 29, 2010

My husband and I recently visited the area and went to the Mine & Museum. You can take a ride down 300 ft. into the mine. AMAZING! Our guide was great - having been a miner in his youth. It really helped you understand what those men in Chile must have been enduring.

“Educational and entertaining mine tour”
Reviewed August 13, 2010

We toured the mine on a Thursday at 1pm in August 2010. We had our two boys ages 8 and 10. We all loved the tour. Our mine guide, Larry, is the best! He made the tour very entertaining to engage the kids with the historical and factual information. It was certainly one of our highlights to our trip to the Poconos. Yes, do take sweatshirts and wear closed shoes, if possible. Your toes will get wet in sandals. The museum is nice with many exhibits; try to visit it before the mine tour.

The little gift shop is very nice with souvenir coal bags, coal candy, coal bubble gum, and carved coal figurines and more. Enjoy the trip we spent about 2 hrs.

“NO 9 Coal Mine and Museum”
Reviewed July 22, 2009

You go into the earth in an actual coal mine that stopped production in 1972 via a small electric train that the miners used. This is a excellent educational tour. Bring a sweater (they have some you can borrow) as the temp runs around 50 degrees year round and ground water seeps from the top of the tunnels. You can get dirty if you lean against the walls. Very young children will get bored and sometimes frightened. They do turn the lights off to show how dark it would be if you were a miner. So if you are claustrophobic Please skip this tour. The tour explains what a hard life these men and boys had and how the owners of the mine exploited these people. You do get out of the train and walk down tunnels as the Tour guide explains about mining. Wear comfortable shoes. Lansford Pa is a town that was populated by many immigrants, Russian, Polish, Italian, Irish etc. Each group built their own beautiful church in this little town.
