“Decent Hotel, Great Location”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

My family bought a Groupon to stay at the Lancaster Host Resort for a quick overnight trip up to Dutch Wonderland from Baltimore. The location is conveniently located across the street from Dutch Wonderland (walking distance), close to many restaurants and an outlet mall, and a quick drive from downtown Lancaster and a bunch of other attractions. The hotel's location is prime!

Inside the hotel (lobby, common rooms), I agree with a lot of the reviews I've read that it is dated. However the staff there keeps it pretty clean, so that is okay in my book. The rooms were in okay condition. Nothing great, but again, kept clean. We didn't watch much television at all, but when we did, it was a little fuzzy. I'm not sure if that is because it was an old TV or because of the cable feed. Others have mentioned chipped porcelain in the tubs and sinks and yes there are some chips, but it was only cosmetic. Everything functioned just fine, so that's not a big deal.

The beds were comfy enough and the A/C did its job on a hot, muggy night, so my family and I got a good night sleep.

They have a real nice indoor childrens play area, similar to what you see at the malls, with a bunch of camping / outdoor related sculptures that kids can climb around on. My daughter loved being in that room. This is huge if you are traveling with small children and happen to have some inclement weather.

None of the ice machines that I attempted to use worked, but the front office was happy to supply you with ice upon request, even going so far as to deliver it to your room. So I had no issue with the ice machines being down.

The staff here was super nice. From the folks in the restaurant, to the people at the front desk, everyone was super nice and accommodating. Sure the furnishings weren't the latest and greatest, but cleanliness and customer service means a lot in my book, and the hotel did a nice job with this.

Bottom line, for the price we paid to stay the night ($69 through Groupon, which included the breakfast buffet), we couldn't be happier.

First I want to say that front desk persons are nice but a little lost when it comes to dealing with complaints. The response that was given on the night of 8/2 when complaint was given about a run in with one of there staff members making a threat a to one of there other guests resulted in service desk employee not following up with manager to correct situation but instead said to the man whom was making the complaint what he wanted them to do about the situation??? After this guest told them what had happened they seemed to be unsurprised that the actions from their own security employees said and acted in a threatening manner and made reference to the fact this is not the first issue they have heard about with this employee. What was odd about this was that all they kept doing was apologizing after the fact and then made the statement what do you want us to do about it. If they had to ask their customer that question means one thing they have no clue and being nice can only go so far. As for the general condition of the hotel...well let's say you could close the place down for the week and clean everyday and it still would be dirty. Bathrooms in common areas we bad and anyone could just walk off street to use them with no question. In the morning there were beer bottles in lounge area with board game and card wrappers on table in clear view of the front desk. Way to show ownership, have a little pride. There were people who were sleeping in lounge area and on seatings in hallways and were there the whole night. That's odd where was security for people staying in hotel and not paying for rooms. Hotel rooms were more like Motel rooms and nonsmoking rooms smelt like the Marlboro Man stayed in it for a month. The room bathroom was dirty. The sinks were painted to hide cracks. The bathtubs were painted to hide who knows what and water was leaking into the walls. The carpets stained your socks black and the beds were in such bad shape and worn out that you would sink into the middle of it. The food and spirits are good bit if the cleanliness was anything like it was I'm guest areas you might want to get a tour of the kitchen. The front doors on this place were even broken with parts of the drive up area exterior falling apart. Over all should be priced at $60 a night since I have seen some seedy joints before that were cleaner.

ok... let me first say that I read the reviews prior to going and was a little frightened. I had purchased our stay through Groupon so was stuck. During our 4 nights we changed room 3 times. One whole day and night we did not have water. One room view was of the dumpster. Our patio flooded during a thunderstorm. Rooms are very outdated; old spreads, flat pillows, nasty carpet; rusting pipes in bathrooms. The staff was great during this transition. The video game room is a rip off; no refunds even when the machine takes your money! And half the machines (was only 7) were not working. Our last room move was larger than the previous two -think it must had been one of their "suites", but it was a mute point as we were leaving the following day.

Room Tip: either stay somewhere else or ask for and pay for an "upgraded" room

Green Features: there were none; cleaning staff was very friendly when asking for ice or extra towels

I recently stayed in one of the suites this resort has to offer. Although I had heard from others prior to my stay that the rooms were not all that great and needed lots of updating, I was 100% happy with my suite. It was extremly spacious, clean, and had a large balcony. The Presidential Suite is just amazing--you could get lost in there. The Fulton suite is equally as nice as are the King Suites (although smaller in size) Staff are extremely attentive to your needs. This site is located in very close proximity to many attractions such as Dutch Wonderland (which is literally across the street) and many restaraunts and food establishments.

The professional organization I am a member had their annual state conference at the Lancaster Host this past July (2014). We hosted close to 450 attendees. In-spite of the fact that the infrastructure of the facility is not 100%, we could over look the flaws because what was really important was the price, staff, food, and amenities The staff could not have been nicer. They went out of their way to make the event a success. The exhibitors commented that the staff at the Lancaster Host were the best they had ever seen. The food was excellent. We had a variety of gourmet meals at a very reasonable price. Regarding the amenities, the conference space was adequate, the exhibit hall was very spacious, the AV prices were reasonable and the fun spots for family members were wonderful. The pool, kids spot and video game area were a plus for family members. The location of the Lancaster Host was a plus also. Dutch Wonderland across the street, many restaurants and the outlet malls nearby, made down time for the attendees memorable. If future organizations want a facility that tries hard to please and has an attentive staff that is very customer service oriented and goes into the process knowing the shortcoming of the property, then their meeting can enjoy the same successes we had at our conference. Thank you.

The Lancaster Host was the site of our recent annual conference, attended by nearly 500 members and more than 275 individual business members. The facility needs updating, from new televisions to remodeled bathrooms to more towels! But they know that ... and the management and staff (from the front desk to the food and beverage manager to the AV staff to maintenance to engineering) went out of their way to make our meeting a success. We and they had no control of the infrastructure, but they could control their attention to our needs and they did. The staff was most helpful, the food outstanding, and the price was right. All in all, if you can overlook or disregard a facility that is past its prime and needs improvement, and focus on the overall experience, then you will have a positive experience.

Room Tip: My room faced the pool ... it was quiet, without issues, and convenient.

We held a conference there and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Felicia at the front desk would always address me by name and with a smile. Carl the F&B manager was professional and willing to bend over backwards to make our conference a success. The exhibit hall is huge and has easy access for vendors (which they loved.) The room rates were great, plus there was hot breakfast each morning. Also, the catered meals that we ordered for the conference were very tasty and well presented. The location is dated but clean. Note that if you are willing to accept that fact, you can save a lot of money and still enjoy all that Lancaster has to offer by staying at the Host.
