Description: During renovations, workers found in the floor beams a signed inspection stamp--November 5, 1890--with the name of tobacco inspector John J. Jeffries. We named the restaurant after him. We’ve designed our menu based on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic agriculture and delicious recipes. Please join us and taste the difference of local farm-to-table sustainable cuisine in one of Lancaster's best fine dining restaurants. As the Chefs and Owners of John J Jeffries, we believe you will find our passion for supporting local businesses and preserving the land we live on, to be contagiously obvious in how we run our restaurant. All of our meats are raised locally, confinement-free on fresh green grass pastures. No hormones, antibiotics, steroids or forced-fertilization occurs. Our produce is local organic or chemical free. We use local grass fed cream, butter and eggs. We also provide sustainable seafood and support sustainable fisheries.

Having spent the afternoon walking around Lancaster we had a healthy appetite by the time we sat for early dinner on a beautiful Spring Sunday. We sat in the "patio" not for the view [there isn't one!] but simply to enjoy the open air and sun - an appropriate setting for beautifully fresh local food. Everything - from beef tartare to local vegetables simply tasted "fresh-from-the farm". And all wonderfully well prepared and presented. Service was very good indeed.

We will return - in the Fall

We were celebrating our anniversary. Reservations highly recommended for a Saturday evening. Menu is perfect size. Options vary greatly. The lamb was delicious. I had the beef livers, cooked to perfection. The shank tacos are mouth watering. Desert we had the Ice Cream Sampler. You won't be disappointed. MUST TRY!!!

I was thrilled to finally try JJJ and it did not disappoint. The menu (both small and large plates) changes daily based on what is available, and things do run out over the course of the evening. I was very impressed with Joe's knowledge of the food and wine, which are top quality. We enjoyed a terrific Lancaster County merlot (who knew?) from Waltz Vineyards which was robust enough to pair well with the delicious grass-fed beef (tartare and NY strip). I would have liked to get the duck and pork as well, but I'll just have to return.

We heard this was "the" place to go for dinner, so were looking forward to our reservation. There were several changes to the menu items that evening which were explained nicely by the server. Chicken was grilled that night and served with thin French fries which were tasty but kind of mushy. Overall, the experience was okay, but our dinner at Checkers, including the ambiance, was better.

Location within the Lancaster Arts Hotel was its best attribute. We had pork and pheasant and they were good but not something we would order again. We would venture out to another restaurant.
