Bed and Breakfasts are usually known for giving you the feeling of a home away home but this place was truly opposite. It looked okay in the pictures and we were hoping for a comfortable stay. We rented the barn for few days as the owner took us to the barn it looked shabby from outside. Our first thoughts were is it really what we rented? Since it was rainy season lot of algea was present on the pavement of the house and was very slippery.

As we went inside the place looked clean but as soon as we reached the kitchen and opened the oven we found ROTTEN FOOD inside. It was stinking like hell. It looked like the rotten food was kept there since months. We called the owner and told them about this they just came and took the dish away without cleaning the oven or spraying something in there. We got lot of frozen food which we could bake during our stay but looking at the condition of that kitchen we just had to order the food from outside.

Room Tip: I would not recommend to go live there.

I was mortified that the guests found the former guests dinner in the oven. I had forgotten to look in there when cleaning the house. This had never happened before. I never smelled anything, one reason for the oversight. I removed it within two minutes of the notificatin and said I was so sorry. I didn't spray anything for there was no smell.

I can't help but mention that when the guests left, they failed to tell me that they had burned holes in the living room rug which could not be repaired. I called them within 30 minutes of their departure to ask about the damages. They pretended not to know what I was talking about. They had tried to hide it by moving the furniture out of place. I found it real fast. Finally they admitted to their careless mistake but where not happy that I wanted them to pay for the damages. I thought it only fair since I could not rent it again without a new rug in place. They did pay for their mistake and wrote their review.

We loved to stay at the Hollinger House in past years when Gina was the owner. Since she has sold it, we decided to try it once again and see if her "touches" remained with the house. Well, we were very disappointed. The house has become very cluttered in the common sitting areas, the innkeepers ask for a "donation" for their snacks in a dish strategically located next to their location, and the "family style" dining setup sorely loses its intimate setting for breakfast. Plus, before we could even drop our bags in the foyer, the innkeepers wanted our credit card for payment....not a very welcoming gesture. The breakfast was somewhat plain, however it was livened up by the innkeeper's husband who was pleasant to converse with during the meal. The rooms did have a nice touch with the mechanical fireplace and the room had nice furnishings....most left by the past innkeeper and owner, Gina. With the clutter (computer monitors/cpu's) in the room off the entrance and the hap hazzard arrangement of the furniture and decorations in the common sitting room, it just is not a "homey" place to stay anymore....it is a shame, because the outside grounds and location would make this an ideal respite in the Lancaster area.

Just returned from a 2-night stay at the Hollinger House, and left feeling there were some things that would have been helpful to know before we booked the place. As mentioned in some previous reviews, there is a major road fairly close to the property which could be quite loud at times. We were especially disappointed about this because we specifically booked the Hollinger House over a different B&B so we could have a private balcony. In addition, the owners and their 8 children reside in the house, which was never mentioned to us when we made our reservation, nor was it mentioned beforehand that our room backed up to one of the rooms the children were in. Although they never disturbed us, we would have liked to been aware of the living situation ahead of time. Another aspect of our stay which was disappointing was breakfast itself. Although the pancakes with raspberries and bacon served were tasty, they were the only things served. Having stayed at other B&Bs in the past that served quite a few main dishes in addition to an assortment of breads, pastries and fruit, we found the Hollinger House's breakfast to be on the skimpier side.
Aside from these issues, the room was quite clean and comfortable. The towels and linens were fresh, and we were able to relax for a good part of our stay. The owners also were helpful when we needed recommendations for dinner and things to do. If you are thinking about staying at B&B while in Lancaster, the Hollinger House may suit your needs as long as you know what to expect.

My family and I ( 3 adults and 2 children ) stayed at this property for 3 nights during June after reading the reviews on TA and booking via their website and I can say without fail it was a fantastic choice while visiting Lancaster . The hosts Dave and Cindy made us feel welcome , and part of their large family from the moment we arrived . We booked the Brick House which turned out to be a great choice and there was plenty of room inside and out for the kids to stretch their legs after many hours driving around the area . The Brick House was extremely comfortable with 3 bedrooms , 1.5 bathrooms a laundry and more than well equipped kitchen and all were kept extremely clean. Shops were close by and Dave had given us some great dinning options in the area which we took up , and glad we did . Dave also gave us some great tips while visiting the area which made our 3 days a lot easier and allowed us to maximise our time there . We took the opportunity each morning to eat breakfast in the main house and were more than happy with the fantastic food Cindy prepared and the various topics discussed with Dave . If we were to visit the area again we would have no hesitation in staying there and picking up where we had left off .

Neat big, old house, but it really is located rather close to the main drag into Lancaster. Since the road is on a hill, trucks and motorcycles make a lot of noise going up and down it at 50+ mph, so the front two rooms are loud enough at night to be a bother.

Breakfast was good both mornings we stayed, but not spectacular...

We had a wonferful time at Hollinger House B&B. This was our first experience staying at a Bed & Breakfast and we are now hooked.

Cindy gave us a tour when we checked in - room was lovely - we stayed in the Celestial room with our own bathroom and a fireplace! The place is immaculate and the owners (Cindy and Dave) and their family were wonderful - very hospitable and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived.

They made suggestions on where to eat and we took them up on the Iron Side Inn and Cafe in Strasburg - delicious and we would highly recommend it. We also had dinner at Molly's Pub in downtown Lancaster - great place with good food and friendly staff.

We will definitely be going back to Lancaster and Hollinger House - breakfast was yummy - LOVED the french toast!!

We finally found a place to stay after planning a quick long-weekend getaway and not many vacancies in all of Lancaster and the surrounding area, not to mention one that allowed smoking outside while still offering the privacy we were looking for.

We stayed in the Brick House, a fairly large, private duplex on the property. The other side, the Log House, was also being used by a couple and their small dog, but you never would have known that anyone was there due to the thick walls which also added to your privacy.

The owners did everything to make you feel welcome and comfortable - giving you a tour of the home when you checked in. Also helped us with some places to eat and things to do which added to their warmth and friendliness.

Breakfast was wonderful, but since we had a full kitchen in our house, we opted to eat there the other mornings since we enjoyed sleeping a little later (had a teenager with us!).

The Brick House had all the amenities that you have at home, but with a private country setting. The kitchen was fully stocked (even had coffee, creamer, salt/pepper, cereal which was a nice surprise), double bedroom downstairs, half-bath, laundry room with iron and ironing board, and the upstairs had a bedroom with a queen bed, full bath with shower and another smaller bedroom with a twin bed, making it perfect for a visiting family of four to have enough space to spread out when privacy was needed. Also was VERY clean!

The porch outside was large and great for sitting on to get some fresh air! Plenty of parking too! The house is in the perfect location for exploring all that Lancaster has to offer. Even though it's off the main road which goes through the City of Lancaster, you are far enough away from that area yet close enough if you want to go back and visit.

About a minute's drive away is a grocery store and McDonald's and Willow Valley, making it convenient if you need any groceries (and right up the road from that is a new shopping center and two banks) and a 10 minute country drive to Route 896 in Strasburg and on to Route 30 for outlet shopping and about a 15 minute country drive to Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse, making it the perfect place to stay for any shopping or sightseeing that you want to do.

Will definitely return again when we are in the area, maybe even stay in the renovated Barn which looked as beautiful as "our" Brick House! The fall leaves weren't quite in season yet, but I'm sure it the grounds will have a picturesque setting when the time is right!
