“Quiet, quaint and lovely”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

We were in the area for Day Out with Thomas at the Strasburg Railroad. We rented one of the cottages. We were very pleased with it. The area was quiet. Felt like a small residential neighborhood. Each cottage looks like a small house on the outside, but inside it's like a large hotel room. Basic amenities, all of which were fine. I liked that we could open up the windows and let fresh air in. It was late summer when we went so the weather was perfect for that. There is a small airfield behind the property but we never noticed any noise from it unless we were outside, and my son enjoyed watching the planes. So no complaints there! The hotel grounds were lovely. Very peaceful to take a walk. Location was great! Close to major restaurants, outlets and of course the railroad. Staff was friendly and check in was easy. We will definitely return to stay there again.

My husband and I took another weekend trip to Lancaster area and once again decided to spend our money on having fun rather than on a fancy room. However, we really PREFER these cottages! Much more private than a hotel room or B&B, especially on the off season when the other side of the cottage will probably be empty (duplex cottages). The main room is very bright, spacious and clean with a mini-fridge and microwave. There is a table with 2 chairs by the alcove window. There is a futon that has seen better days, but its okay. There is lots of light with pleated shades to open/close at your discretion. There is a cathedral ceiling with overhead beams and gable windows for light. The bathroom is clean and bright. It looks like it has recently been renovated with tub and shower enclosures. I like that the sink area is in a separate room from tub and toilet area. The coffee pot is on the large sink vanity, which is fine with me since it is OUTSIDE the bathroom. There is a small closet with rod, shelf and door. The bed is comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I like that the cottages are off the main highway and set back from the street, so much nicer, yet the location is close to everything. I hate to give a good review, because I want there to be a vacancy the next time we call, but truth be told, this place is a really nice clean place to stay without breaking the bank. We will return.

Room Tip: Pay a few dollars extra to get a cottage instead of the lodge -- more room and more privacy.

We have been staying here in the winter every year for at least the past 6 years. The cottages are sooo nice. They are very clean, very bright and airy, and spacious!! The owners are always very kind and accomodating. The rooms have a refrigerator and a microwave. Many times while we are visiting Lancaster, we will pick up some food from the Bird-in-Hand market and bring it back to the room and prepare it there.

I have also had the opportunity to stay in the lodge, which was also very clean and well appointed. The rooms were much smaller and the decor was a little older.

Located on Route 340, Spruce Lane is away from the hustle and bustle of Route 30 but yet still close to everything. In the morning, I always walk to Turkey Hill to get our coffee and breakfast.

It is a great family tradition! Best of all, the price is better than most other accommodations in this area, and the accommodations here are definitely superior!! I have even turned some of our friends on to Spruce Lane, and they've said that they would never stay anywhere else while in Lancaster County :)

Room Tip: The cottages are bigger and more airy than the lodge rooms, and are especially good for families.

cute, clean and very comfortable cottages; reasonably priced ( great deal in off-season ); near all attractions in Dutch / Amish Country, yet just away enough for peace and quiet.... spacious inside the cottages.

Room Tip: our cottage faced the small airport in the back, pretty cool watching the small planes take off and...

We always stay at Spruce Lane when we come to Lancaster for the Mudsales. The people that run the motel are nice, friendly and accommodating. Extremely clean. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. It is centrally located to all the area sites.

Room Tip: We prefer the cottages over the lodge. The rooms are much larger.

We have stayed two times at the Spruce Lane Lodge & Cottages in the Cottages. We enjoy the place and find it to be very clean and quiet. The staff is super wonderful and very accomodating. My son actually left an item in the cottage and when I called the next day, they put it in the mail to us wrapped very carefully. We plan on staying there every time we go to Lancaster which is approximately two times each year. If you are looking for clean, quiet and not too expensive, I highly recommend you give this place a try.

I needed to find a economic choice for this trip to Lancaster. The reviews on these cottages were decent, and I especially searched for "clean" as one of my requirements. It's February and the price was only $59/night, so I booked cottage #31 for 2 nights.

The "cottages" consist of numerous small attractive buildings containing 2 units each. There is a front porch with bench, lattice with rose bushes, white paint, all quite pleasing to look at. The office staggers the guests among the cottages so you do not have anyone else in the other side of your unit until there are no more vacanices in separate buildings. We felt pretty private, which was nice! There is a small airstrip directly behind the cottages, but we heard little noise from that.

The cottages are well kept, with fresh paint (except for the inside walls of our front porch) and the bathrooms looked like they were recently renovated, probably with re-bath type coverings, but very clean with shiny chrome, fixtures and floors. There was no hairdryer, iron or ironing board. The bathroom was divided into two spaces, with toilet and tub in enclosed area behind door, and a nice sink/mirror, counter alcove just outside. There was NO CLOSET, just a few hooks with 3 hangers in alcove between bathroom and sink counter. Water pressure was good. There was a coffee pot on the counter in sink alcove, which was fine. I hate it when it is on counter in enclosed toilet area!

The bed was standard metal frame on wheels with a nice looking light pine headboard and matching dresser/mirror. The bedspread was an inexpensive but cheerful light-colored PRINTED quilt, which seemed clean. The room was larger than most, sparsely furnished, with lots of floor space, and a light and airy feel. There is a vaulted white ceiling with three large exposed natural wood beams, adding to the spaceousness of the room.

The table and chairs by window were very practical, but of budget quality. The futon had seen better days, rock hard and low. It would be extremely uncomfortable to sleep on, and just okay for extra seating, being low, flat, and hard to climb up out of. There was a small frige and microwave stacked piggy-back on floor. There were lots of windows with roman-type plastic blinds which let in plenty of light when opened. The carpet looked attractive and new, but we got a lot of "shocks" after walking across it and touching something metal. The TV worked well and had lots of channels. The remote had a MUTE but no closed caption, so it made it hard for me to watch TV while my husband was sleeping. There was no program guide on remote or in room, just a channel guide on bedside table.

The cottages are set back off the main road, which is nice. There is a restaurant right next door and a Turkey Hill convenience gas store within short walking distance -- also seed store and garden supply place, which I wish I had seen earlier, as I wanted seeds! The overall location is nice, short driving distance to Rockvale Outlets, restaurants, and many and of the Rte 30 attractions, Strasburg, etc. The office staff were pleasant and accommodating.

I struggled between 3 and 4 stars because of the austere furnishings, but I think the good qualities brought it up to 4, considering the price, location, cleanliness and size.

If you want fancy, this is not the place for you. If you want a clean room, with comfortable bed, simple practical furnishings, good location and great price, then I would recommend Spruce Lane Lodge and cottages.

Room Tip: I think the cottages are roomier and more private than the lodge.
