Owner description: In 1954, the play, “Plain and Fancy” was a smash hit on Broadway. The Broadway hit drew a spotlight as the play was featured around the Amish lifestyle and their home: Lancaster County. This was the tipping point of a tourist boom the progressively grew from 25,000 annual visitors to 2,000,000 by 1960. Due to the increase of tourists and invasion of privacy of the Amish, Lancaster-local Adolph Neuber believe that there should be a place to accurately learn about the Amish, while respecting their privacy. An Amish family opened their home and property to visitors for tours. Since 1955, The Amish Farm and House has been connecting the Amish community and the public. Tour Lancaster County’s Amish Farm and House. Opened nearly 60 years ago, The Amish Farm and House has hosted travelers from around the world visiting Lancaster County. “Had a great time here.”

Renate was my guide through the house. She was very informative and funny. Learned a lot during that tour.
I also walked around the grounds. Lots to see there.
I highly recomment the bus tour. You'll learn so much about the Amish this way.
Oh, my GPS said I arrived but I didn't see it. It's set off the road a bit right next to Target.

Thank you for visiting us! We're glad you enjoyed your tour with Renate. She is a native of the Rhineland...the same region in Germany from which the Amish come. We're glad you enjoyed the bus tour. It certainly takes your experience a whole step further into the Countryside!

“Fun tour of Amish Country”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

We used another company a couple years ago for a tour. We enjoyed both. We liked seeing the farm animals, talking to the extremely nice wood carver/cutter, riding the Amish scooters, seeing the school house, and looking at the Amish house at this place. There is a scooter trail where you can try out the Amish style scooters, and my family had fun on those. The 500 lb pig with babies and goats with babies were fun to see. The wood carver was extremely nice and talked to my family for a while telling us fun stories. The bus tour was informative, and we enjoyed seeing the Amish kids at recess and Amish farmers working. We didn't like the stops as much on this tour though. We stopped at one Amish store and one Amish quilt store. The other tour bus we used stopped at three Amish stores, and I felt those were more authentic and had better choices and goods. I wasn't interested in a quilt although they were interesting to see. Overall, we really enjoyed doing this tour but would possibly use the other company again for the bus tour.

“Awesome tours, we learned a lot!”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

We went to the Amish Farm and House on a Sunday. We decided to take a tour of the house and the bus tour of the surrounding area. I found the guides of both tours to be knowledgeable and respectful about the culture of the local Amish families. The grounds of the Amish Farm are unfortunately surrounded by a shopping center which impact the ambiance a bit. However, we found the animals, especially the array of baby sheep to be lovely. The farm's goat habitat is a great deal of fun. We were the only one's there at the time and it tickled us to watch the goat's antics as we fed them. Make sure you bring some quarters for the feed machine.
Overall, an enjoyable experience.

Thank you for visiting the Amish Farm and House. We're glad you found the house tour and bus tour highly enjoyable, informative, and fun. About 8 years ago, stores were built beside and in front of the farm, but the original part of the farm was never touched. We still have 15 picturesque acres tucked behind the hustle and bustle of today's world, which you saw for yourself. Once you're behind the house, it's a different world!

“Good way to Learn About the area”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

We took the complete package tour. Our bus driver was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We were able to learn the basics about the Amish life and to see a great deal about the area. The farmhouse tour was also very interesting to learn more detail about Amish customs and beliefs. The farm tour was not as interesting as the rest but worth a few minutes if you have the time.
