Talk about tradition: Valentino's, our neighborhood family cafe, last year celebrated its 75th anniversary with a big outdoor party. We have friends in FL and MA who, when they come to Lancaster to visit us, want to go there first thing!
Very good simple food at honest prices in a homey, comfortable atmosphere with friendly staff and friendly diners, mostly regulars. Generous helpings (when we want spaghetti we always get a “child's” portion).
Cash only, infinite parking, quiet area just off Columbia Av (Lincoln Highway).
Alas, beloved John Valentino passed away this month at 88. Walk around the dining room to view photos and clippings of him and his wonderful family.

Valentinos is one of those places that only the locals know about. The building houses a bar and a restaurant in separate rooms. Never having been in the bar, I can't write about that portion. However, the restaurant Is great. It has a good selection of meals. The spaghetti dinner is excellent, and the portions are huge (order the small, and you will still probably need a "to go" box...my son and wife enjoy the leftovers for lunch the next day). The prices are great. The business is family-owned and family members make up the staff...which means they care. The service is fast and friendly. If you decide to go on Thursday evening, you may want to make a reservation since the dining room is small, and Thursdays feature live music. The music consists of patrons who bring their instruments or play the piano in the room (usually two to four musicians - piano, accordion, trumpet, etc.). The dining room decor features old menus dating back to the 1930's (when the family started the restaurant), family photos, etc. This is truly a neighborhood restaurant of the sort you can only wish you had in your neighborhood. We were thrilled to find it.

Had chicken pot pie this Wednesday. Tastes like home made. Lots of chicken, home made dumplings. Huge servings -- had enough for lunch the next day. Salads are always crisp and fresh. Can't beat their prices. Best value in town! (Note: like many old-fashioned family-owned restaurants, they don't take credit cards -- bring cash!)

We eat here at least 3 times each month. Highly recommended!

A classic neighborhood bar, with a loyal, friendly patronage, equally friendly staff, and way above average food at blue collar prices. Italian dishes are the specialty, but hard to go wrong no matter what you order. Unpretentious, super casual, and very family friendly on the restaurant side, yet a lively bar scene on the other side. A great, cheap happy hour spot where you will not be a stranger for long. Plenty of off-street parking in their football-field-plus-sized lot.

P.S.: I'm not a "regular" and this review is unsolicited.
