“Dutch Country Alternative”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

If you are in "Amish Country" but don't care much for the Dutch Country cuisine (or just want a break from it), Lancaster apparently boasts a few dining choices. Gibralter is one of the best. Its location is on a college campus (Franklin and Marshall) which made me expect a "college" eating experience (burgers, pizza, etc.), but Gibralter is nothing of the sort. The decor is modern and inviting and the menu is American classic (my definition). My wife had a turkey club - excellent, and I had the scallop dish - also excellent. Our server was great, directing us away from a choice that we were tempted to make. We went for a mid-week lunch, so the place was fairly deserted, and I suspect that dinner-time and weekends are quite busy.

“It's pricey, but quite good”
Reviewed March 25, 2013

Gibraltar offers some high-end seafood dishes in an upscale atmosphere.

Don't go in if you aren't willing to spend some $$$.

Several members of our party ordered the soft shell crab appetizer and were very pleased.

I had the fisherman's chowder which was very good.

Everyone in our party of 8 were quite pleased with their meal.

Service seemed a bit slow at times, but as we were there for a business meal with lots of talking going on, it was OK. But we did have to flag our waiter down to settle the bill when we were ready to leave.

“Amazing food with matching prices, of course”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

Gibraltar is definitely a special occasion type of spot, although you will find the odd casual diner in there as well, from time to time (it is Lancaster, PA, after all, no pun intended). I went there and got the 1 tier raw bar appetizer, which was very good, probably some of the best oysters I have ever had (and I live on the beach, so that is saying something). The entree, although I don't recall the details, was also great and, overall, it lived up to its reputation, price and quality wise.

“Food vs atmosphere”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

The food at Gibraltar is always top notch but the decor is very dated! We have been eating here for years (10) and it is looking a bit sad inside.

“Oysters are awesome!”
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Our party of 4 enjoyed an excellent meal at Gibraltar. Three of us had the fresh fish of the day, which was Florida grouper, which was perfectly prepared, and very delicious. The other entree was the scallops, which were even better!

The fresh oysters were as good as I've ever had - ordered 6 each from BC and NS Canada.
Service was excellent. And martinis are excellent as well.
