Description: If you haven't visited El Serrano along Lancaster's Columbia Avenue lately, you haven't visited El Serrano. Or, perhaps it is more appropriate to say, you haven't visited Peru. Every square inch of the Latin-American restaurant has been extensively redesigned, upgraded and refurbished authentically, with architectural details similar to those of 150 years ago--to the point that stepping through its hand-carved mahogany doors is like entering a Peruvian hacienda. As owner Manuel Torres says, "it's like going on vacation."

“Nice decor - Food issues”
Reviewed February 1, 2009

The building is nice and airy and service was OK.

However, be prepared to get a tiny dish of bland salsa with your complimentary chips - oh, and also be prepared to pay extra for any additional chips and salsa. The spicy salsa also costs extra.

Gotta pay for the building somehow, I guess.

Food was fairly tasteless with no spice. My shredded beef burritos had a good amount of beef but it was tasteless.

Margheritas were good but very small.

If they want to live up to what they are trying to be they need to look at Abuelos or Sol in Nashville where great food, drinks and service is understood.

Overpriced for what you get

“good food but expect to wait”
Reviewed January 11, 2009

The food at El Serrano is pretty good. The vegetarian fajitas are fantastic (love the marinade) and my friends always rave about the Pollo Fundido. There are lots of good, unusual margaritas as well. It is definitely pricier than El Rodeo, which is where we tend to go instead, but has some more unusual items on the menu. The main reason I don't go to El Serrano more often is because of the parking. It's a nightmare. They also don't take reservations on weekends. I tend to go at off times to avoid the crowds. If you don't mind the wait, it's definitely worth it.

“Just plain disappointing”
Reviewed December 30, 2008

It is difficult for the family to be disappointed in any Mexican meal but this lunch on December 26th was one of those. El Rodeo with several Central Pa locations is far superior in service, quantity and taste. We had no expectations going into this restaurant so the disappointment grew with each passing moment. We would put lunch at El Serrano above Taco Bell but that is not saying much.
